BJP will win 150 seats in next assembly polls; I will be CM: Yeddyurappa

April 10, 2016

Bengaluru, Apr 10: Former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on Saturday said that he would be the “next Chief Minister of Karnataka” with the party confident of winning 150 seats in the 2018 Assembly polls.

Speaking to media persons at his Dollars Colony residence in Bengaluru, he said it was people of the state who wanted him to head the state.

Mr. Yeddyurappa, who occupied the coveted post of the party chief for the fourth time, refuted the argument that there was delay in his appointment because of internal differences. “The term of previous president Prahlad Joshi ended only ten days ago and it took some time for the party leadership to fill that post,” he added.

People in the state wanted Mr. Yeddyurappa to head the party in the State and “honouring their sentiments”, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Party's chief Amith Shah had handed over the responsibility of strengthening the party in the State, he said. “I have a responsibility to live up to their expectation,” he added. “They have exonerated all the mistakes committed by me and given a huge responsibility.”

On whether he was inevitable for the party at this juncture, Mr. Yeddyurappa said there were many senior and experienced leaders in the party. “But, Central leadership felt my necessity at the juncture and they thought I can shoulder the responsibility of strengthening the party,” he explained.

On his immediate priority, Mr. Yeddyurappa said it was “freeing Karnataka from Congress.” Mr. Siddaramaiah was working as “dictator” instead of addressing the issues, he said, focusing on expanding his cabinet and filling posts of boards and corporations.

Despite opposition by the senior party leaders including former Chief Minister S.M. Krishna and senior party leader Janardhana Poojary, Mr. Siddaraaiah refused disband Anti Corruption Bureau, he formed overnight.

To free Karnataka from Congress, we will work as a team. “You have seen the response of the central ministers from Karnataka and senior party leaders in the state, who came here. We all join our hands in achieving the goal of bringing party to power in the State,” he explained.

He said that he would officially take charge as the party state head on April 15 and start touring the drought hit areas from 23. After taking stock of the situation, he along with other leaders, chalk out plan of action to fight against the ruling Congress in Karnataka.

Bengaluru,  Jul 18: Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers DV Sadananda Gowda on Friday said that Government of India headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been extending all possible assistance to state government in their endeavour to combat the deadly coronavirus.

In a statement released after participating in a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa in Bengaluru today, Gowda said he shared his views with the state government on how to control the spread of COVID-19 in the state in general and Bengaluru in particular.

He said the Centre was in constant touch with the state government on the issue. The centre is more than happy to extend any help further if Karnataka requires so.

"Being a Union Minister handling the Pharmaceutical Department also, I am closely monitoring the medicine demand and supply situation across the country on a day-to-day basis. The availability of required medicines including HCQ and Paracetamol is satisfactory in all states including Karnataka. Also, there has been enough lifesaving drugs in our Jan Aushadhi Kendras all over India. Over 600 such outlets exist in Karnataka alone," he said.

"If there is any issue related to medicine shortage or overpricing, one can bring it to my knowledge or call PMBJP tollfree number 18001808080 or NPPA number 18001112550 / 011-23345118 / 011-23345122. The grievances will surely be resolved to everybody's satisfaction" added the minister.

With related to state governments or private agencies seeking to import emergency medicines, medical equipment etc., Gowda assured, we would facilitate required licences without any delay.

"I strongly feel that it is our collective responsibility to use everything in our armour to defeat the pandemic. We also seek public support in this mission. Together, we will win," he said.

Mangaluru, Feb 18: Notorious serial killer 'Cyanide' Mohan has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a court here for the murder of a 23-year old woman from Kasaragod district of Kerala in 2006.

That was the 19th of the 20 murder cases slapped against him.

Sixth additional district and sessions court judge Sayeedunnisa  said the life sentence will commence after he serves the sentence of imprisonment in the other cases.

Cyanide Mohan had 20 murder cases registered against him. He is accused of killed several women using cyanide after befriending and raping them.

He has been awarded the death sentence in five cases and life imprisonment in three. Two of the death penalties were later commuted to life imprisonment.

According to the charge sheet in the latest case, Mohan met the woman while she was going to work at a unit of CAMPCO here. After befriending and offering to marry her, on January 3 in 2006, he took her to Mysuru and stayed in a lodge near the bus stand.

Like in all other cases, the next morning, Mohan asked the woman to remove her ornaments. The two went to the KSRTC bus stand where he asked her to consume a pill convincing her that it was a contraceptive. However, it was laced with cyanide.

The woman, who consumed the pill in the washroom, collapsed and was declared brought dead at a hospital.

As in previous cases, Mohan went back to the lodge and left the place along with her ornaments.

He was arrested later from Bantwal in 2009, after which he admitted to killing 20 women.

The judge directed the District Legal Service Authority to take steps to award compensation to the woman's mother under the Karnataka victim compensation scheme.
