Udupi, Aug 18: The cow vigilantes of Vishva Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal, who brutally attacked two cow transporters and killed one among them on Wednesday night in Udupi district, made all attempts to twist it into an accident case, but in vain.

The incident occurred at around 7:30 p.m. when Praveen Poojary, a cattle trader, was loading three cows into a Tata Ace for transportation at Kadike in Santhekatte near Hebri village. Poojary's friend Akshay Devadiga was also present.

All of a sudden a group of around 30 gau rakshaks apparently belonging to VHP and BD reached the spot and began to assault Poojary with lethal weapons. Devadiga, who came to his rescue, was also assaulted brutally by the miscreants.

The assailants left the spot only after Poojary revealed that he was a BJP worker and had campaigned for the saffron party during last Lok Sabha elections. Though Poojary and Devadiga were rushed to a hospital by local residents, the former breathed his last without responding to any treatment.

Meanwhile, the assailants reportedly warned the local residents, who had witnessed the incident, of dire consequences if they reveal the matter to police.

On the other hand the family members of murdered Poojary and injured Devadiga have claimed that they received threat calls from strangers who threatened them and asked them to treat it as an accident case.

The Udupi district unit of BJP, which always encouraged the violent acts so of called gau rakshaks, is now in a dilemma as they have killed their own man.

Udupi SP KP Balakrishna confirmed to Coastaldigest.com that 18 persons have been arrested for their involvement in the attack.

I request costaldigest not to call these gundas as GOW Rakshaks. These Anti national terrorists are GOW BHAKSHAKS. Government should consider this as a serious matter. Because of these Goondas Family lost a son. Who will bear the loss of this? Killing human beings in the name of cow should be stopped. If cows have more value than human being then one day this world will be filled with more cows than humans.
I request our PM to wake up and punish all these 17 culprits along with the leaders of VHP & BD who made this master plan.
My sincere condolence to family members of Praveen Poojary.

Dear Hindu Brothers now you can understand that Terrorists have NO RELIGION

Kasaragod, Mar 31: Two more Kasaragod natives lost their lives on Monday due to blockade of the interstate border by Karnataka police in the wake of outbreak of novel coronavirus.

They could not get emergency health care as the Karnataka police stopped the ambulance carrying them to a hospital in Mangaluru at the border.

Another critically-ill person, who was sent back by Manguluru hospital authorities on March 23 for being a Kasaragod native, also died on Monday.

This is the fifth such case in many days.

The deceased are Madhavan, 50, Ayesha, 55 and Aziz Haji, 61 respectively.

All three of them lived near the Karnataka border.

Madhavan, who hailed from Thummanattu in Manjeswaram, died enroute to Kanhangad hospital after being denied entry to cross over to Karnataka. He had an acute bronchial attack.

Udyavar native Ayesha, an asthma patient, was referred to the Mangaluru Hospital by the hospital authorities at Uppali. When the authorities stopped her at the border, she was taken to the Kanhangad hospital. However, she died before reaching the hospital.

Aziz Haji, from Nayabazar Cherugoli MA Cottage at Uppala, was allegedly refused entry into a Manguluru Hospital on March 23 on account of being a Kasaragod native. Haji was a dialysis patient at the hospital. “We were unable to contact his doctor at the time,” his relatives said. Haji, who was on the ventilator, lost his life Monday morning.

One more from Kerala dies as Karnataka police stop ambulance at border
Kunjathoor native Abdul Hameed and Bandwal native Fathima also lost their lives due to the closing of the interstate border.

The district authorities has appealed to the Government to intervene in the matter and influence Karnataka as to lift a ban in crossing over for ambulances carrying critical patients.

The people of Kasaragod are largely dependent on the medical facilities in Mangaluru for critical illness care.

The Kasaragod MP, Rajmohan Unnithan has said he would move the Supreme court against this.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has already taken up the issue with the Centre.

The Kerala High Court on Monday sought the views of the Advocate General of Karnataka on the issue of the government of the neighbouring state blocking its borders with Kerala.

Considering a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Kerala High Court Advocates Association, seeking a direction for opening the roads, a bench comprising Justices A K Jayasankaran Nambiar and Shaji P Chali requested the Advocate General of Karnataka to join the hearing at 11 am on Tuesday through video conferencing.

The Court orally observed that the blockades erecting embankments on the inter-state roads would affect the people's right to life.

The Karnataka government blocked the state highway with to prevent movement of vehicles carrying essential goods and people seeking emergency treatment at hospitals in the city of Mangalore bordering Kasaragod.

With 97 infected patients, Kasaragod has the largest number of COVID-19 cases in Kerala. 7,437 people are under observation in the district.

Mumbai, May 30: Former Bollywood actress Zaira Wasim has deleted her Twitter and Instagram accounts after being heavily trolled for quoting from the Quran while talking about locust attacks.

"So We sent upon them the flood and locusts and lice and frogs and blood: Signs openly self explained: but they were steeped in arrogance -- a people given to sin. --Qur'an 7:133," Zaira had tweeted.

Soon, she started receiving hateful comments from netizens who interpreted her post as a justification of the locust attacks. They felt that Zaira was suggesting that the incident is God's way of expressing wrath.

Shortly after being deluged with such comments, Zaira Wasim deleted her Twitter and Instagram accounts.

However, a section of netizens continue to attack Zaira on her Facebook page, where she put up the same post.

Commenting on the post, a user wrote: "Lady you must have taken into account of those people of JK, Kerala and elsewhere who are also suffering from the virus. Moreover the crops which are damaged by locust had no name as to who will consume them. In this hours of crisis please post something which is positive and reflects your education."

Another user shared: "So according to you, with all due respect every year on the same time period, Allah send locust to India to destroy the crops of poor farmers who are not even involve in the industrial rise, who don't use vehicle to destroy the nature, and Allah send locust only to harm the poor farmers and not the rich one who actually destroy nature."

"So those farmers who lost there fields of crops and will probably go into debt and may also commit suicide, those farmers who feed the nation, who feed you and every one, are sinners?" asked yet another user.

However, there were a few on social media who felt Zaira had done nothing wrong.

"Quoting Quranic Verse is not a crime... Why is every Indian abusing @ZairaWasimmm. She didn't mention any particular nation or religion. I request everyone please stand with #ZairaWasim. She needs our support. #ISupportZairaWasim," goes a tweet.
