Yadgir, Jun 5: A Bharatiya Janata Party youth wing leader has been arrested by police for barging into the administrative office of the Krishna Bhagya Jala Nigam Limited (KBJNL) at Bheemarayanagudi and setting the Chief Engineer's chair on fire in Shahpur taluk of Yadgir district.
According to the police, Karbasappa Biral, president of the Shahpur taluk unit of the BJP youth wing, accompanied by a few others, pushed the watchman, who was on duty outside Chief Engineer's chamber, down and took away the chair before setting it on fire.
The police have launched an investigation into the incident. However, his supporters said that he was frustrated after officials denied him information regarding development work on the canal being taken up in the taluk.
When contacted, Chief Engineer (In-Charge) V.K. Potadar said that the accused had sought some information last week and officials were also instructed to provide him the information.
But, due to some important work related to a NABARD scheme, the officials were unable to provide information in time.
“In the meanwhile, I also spoke to him and asked him to wait for some days. When I was busy in the other sections of the same building, he entered my chamber and took away the chair and set it on the fire,” Mr. Potadar explained.
Removed from post
Meanwhile, Mallanagowda Ukkanal, taluk president of the BJP, removed the accused from the post he was holding.
“It was unfortunate that he took the law into his own hands by setting the chair on fire,” he said. He would remain as a party worker, he added.
