BJP's show of unity: Advani files nomination accompanied by Modi

April 5, 2014

Gandhinagar, Apr 5: In Gujarat's capital Gandhinagar, veteran BJP leader LK Advani filed his nomination today accompanied by chief minister Narendra Modi.

Advani_ModiBefore filing his nomination, Mr Advani offered rich praise for the Gujarat Chief Minister.

The 'Kodak moments' come after 9 months of acrimony between BJP's big two, which was being interpreted as trust deficit. Mr Advani had skipped the BJP's conclave in Goa in June last year and resigned from all party posts over Mr Modi's appointment as the BJP's campaign chief. (Also read: Reconciled. Advani back on board, Modi untouched)

In September, Mr Advani had unsuccessfully challenged the BJP's call to pick Mr Modi as its prime ministerial candidate. Apprehensive that Mr Modi may not work for his win from Gandhinagar, Mr Advani had proposed Bhopal as his preferred constituency.

Opinion polls show Mr Modi leading the BJP to its strongest showing ever. The BJP with its allies is likely to get 259 seats, just 13 short of the halfway mark in Lok Sabha.

Mr Advani today described Mr Modi as "brilliant and efficient event manager who brought this capacity to governance" but said Atal Bihari Vajpayee remains BJP's undisputed gold standard. "I would not compare him (Narendra Modi) to Atalji. He was a class in himself. The main ideologue of the party was Deen Dayal Upadhyay and the person to implement it in governance was Atalji, " he said. (Watch)

Mr Advani was once considered Mr Modi's mentor but today said he wouldn't call Modi his 'protege'.

The 86-year-old, who had lobbied to move constituency to Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh, also said he is committed to Gandhinagar, which he has represented in Parliament for four consecutive terms since 1998.

New Delhi, May 13: Prime Minister Narendra on Tuesday announced Rs 20 lakh crore special economic package for the country to be 'self-reliant' and deal with COVID-19.

"I announce a special economic package today. This will play an important role in the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan.' The announcements made by the government over COVID, decisions of RBI and today's package totals to Rs 20 lakh crore. This is 10 per cent of India's GDP," said Prime Minister Modi in his address to the nation. The Prime Minister said that humanity would not accept defeat from the coronavirus but the people have to stay safe and move forward.

"We had never seen or heard about such a crisis ever before. This is definitely unimaginable for mankind. It is unprecedented. But humanity will not accept defeat from this virus. We have to not only protect ourselves but also move forward," he said.

Talking about the gravity of the virus, Modi said: "It has been four months the world is fighting COVID-19. More than 42 lakh people from different countries have been infected by COVID-19. More than 2.75 lakh people have lost their lives due to the virus. In India too many families have lost their dear ones, I express my condolences to them."

"Today when the entire world is in crisis, we will have to further firm our resolve," he added.

The Prime Minister on Monday held a video conference meeting with Chief Ministers of all states to discuss the road ahead in India's fight against COVID-19 and noted that he was of the firm view that measures needed during the third phase of lockdown will not be needed in the fourth phase.

Prime Minister Modi had said the need was to reduce the transmission rate of the disease and to increase public activity gradually while adhering to all the guidelines and efforts to be made towards achieving both these objectives.

The phase three of the lockdown is coming to an end on May 17.

Malappuram, Jun 5: A lawyer has filed a complaint with Superintendent of Police, Malappuram against BJP leader Maneka Gandhi and others for allegedly indulging in a hate campaign against Malappuram district and its residents.

Advocate Subhash Chandran, who hails from Malappuram, on Thursday filed a complaint seeking registration of FIR against former Union Minister Maneka Gandhi and others for allegedly indulging in a hate campaign against Malappuram and the residents of the district.

The complainant alleged that the campaign against the district was very derogatory and with a malafide intent.

The complaint stated that the unfortunate death of an elephant in Mannarkkad, Palakkad District dominated social media conversations in the last two days but a group of people deliberately added communal colour into it only to spread hatred against Malappuram, which is a Muslim majority district in Kerala.

It also stated that the elephant in question died on May 29, 2020, in Palakkad not in Malappuram as claimed by a section in social media users. Prominent news outlets operating from the South also reported that the elephant died after consuming explosive-laden pineapple in Palakkad.

The complaint also named political commentator, Tarek Fatah, for allegedly starting a hate campaign against the district and the minority community.

It alleged that Union Minister Maneka Gandhi made false and frivolous allegations against the district of Malappuram and its residents.

Chandran, through the complaint, prayed to the district police chief to register an FIR against Maneka Gandhi and others under Section 153A, 120B etc. of Indian Penal Code.

An elephant had died after she ate the pineapple stuffed with crackers and forest officials said that it died standing in river Velliyar after it suffered an injury in its lower jaw.

The elephant was seen standing in the river with her mouth and trunk in the water for some relief from the pain after the explosive-filled fruit exploded in her mouth.
