As part of its campaign for upcoming Assembly elections, the Karnataka state unit of Bharatiya Janata Party will be organising a ‘Suraksha Yatra' in Coastal and Malnad regions from March 3 to 6.

The party leaders will take out padayatra from two places -- Kushalnagar in Kodagu district and Ankola in Uttara Kannada district. Both the yatras will culminate in a rally at Suratkal in Dakshina Kannada on March 6, which will be addressed by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, party MP and state general secretary Shobha Karandlaje told reporters here on Wednesday.

She said there is an atmosphere of fear in the region following the recent communal tension. The yatra is aimed at instilling a sense of peace and security among both the Hindu and the Muslim communities. The yatra would not hurt the sentiments of any particular community, neither would it provoke communalism, she added.

While Union Minister D V Sadananda Gowda is scheduled to inaugurate the yatra from Kushalnagar, his ministerial colleague Anantkumar Hegde is scheduled to flag off the other yatra from Ankola on the same day, she added.

The idea is to take out a padayatra in cities and bike rallies in other parts. Both the teams will traverse through Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts before converging at Suratkal on March 6.

Before the padayatra, BJP national president Amit Shah will tour the coastal districts from February 20.

Kalaburagi, Feb 22: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader Waris Pathan was booked for his alleged remark against the Hindu community in his speech during an anti-CAA rally held here recently, police sources said on Saturday.

According to police sources, the FIR was registered against the AIMIM leader, following a complaint lodged by a woman advocate on Friday evening.

Taking strongly about the incident, the Karnataka Home minister Basavaraj Bommai had directed the Kalaburagi city police commissioner to submit a report on the incident.

It may be recalled that the AIMIM leader, in his speech at a rally held in the city on February 15 had said that if all the 15 crore minority populations in the country stand united they could take on 100 crore Hindu population.

Hubli, Feb 25: A Hubli court in Karnataka has sent to police custody till February 28 three students from Jammu and Kashmir, who were booked under sedition charges for raising pro-Pakistan slogan in a video shared on social media.

A second Joint Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court on Monday sent the three students, identified as Basit Ashik Sophi (19), Talib Majid (19) and Amir Mohiuddin (23), to police custody till February 28 for questioning in the matter.

The court directed the police to make the accused undergo a medical evaluation before the interrogation and produce the medical certificates in the court before the next hearing.

The three students were last week transferred to Belgaum Hindalga jail from Hubli sub-jail and the case, registered in Gokul Road police station, was also transferred to the rural police station because the video was recorded in the college hostel room which is in the latter's jurisdiction.

The Kashmiri students were under judicial custody since February 17 following their arrest for raising pro-Pakistan slogans and posting a video of the same on social media on the night of February 16.
