’BJP’s unwanted boy’: Siddaramiah mocks at BSY over delay in portfolio allocation

Bengaluru, Aug 25: Senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah on Sunday took a dig at chief minister B S Yediyurappa over the delay in allocation of portfolios to his ministerial colleagues and said he has becomeunwanted baby of the BJP.

The former chief minister claimed BJP was facing rebellion within due to which the portfolios could not be alloted even after five days of the cabinet expansion and the party high command had also been not giving any response to Yediyurappa.

What has happened is, Yediyurappa has become an unwanted baby for the BJP high command... on one side there are disgruntled MLAs who went there (to BJP). They are threatening them and then there are many disgruntled within BJP too. Hence portfolio allotment is not happening, Siddaramaiah told reporters here.

Yediyurappa had been going to Delhi and coming back and was not able to meet BJP president Amit Shah (to finalise the portfolio allocation), he claimed.

Attacking the BJP, Siddaramaiah alleged it never had the mandate and came to power through back-door through Operation Lotus (engineering defections) and horse trading.

Yediyurappa, who assumed the office after the collapse of the Congress-JDS government last month, inducted other ministers of his cabinet on August 20 but they are yet to be allocated portfolios.

He had on Saturday cited death of BJP stalwart and former finance minister Arun Jaitley, and his travel to Delhi to pay his last respects to the departed leader as the reasons for the delay in finalising the portfolio allocation.

Bengaluru, Mar 31: With many departmental stores, shops and establishments insisting on people to wear masks, Karnataka government on Tuesday clarified that as a rule every one need not wear a mask.

The Commissionerate of Health and Family Welfare Services in an advisory said a person is suppose to wear mask only when he or she has symptoms of cold or cough or fever or any other respiratory problem.

It said a person who is caring for COVID-19 suspect or confirmed patient should wear mask. Also, a health worker who is attending to a patient with respiratory symptoms should wear a mask.

The advisory also noted that those treating or handling COVID-19 suspects or patients need to wear N95 mask, while others can wear triple layer surgical mask.

The advisory from the Commissionerate has come amid shops and establishments, also police on road insisting people to wear masks when they venture out.

Udupi, Aug 1: A girl child died five persons suffered injuries in a car accident today on National Highway-66 near Ambalpady in Udupi.

According to sources, two couples and children were travelling in the car from Mangaluru to Shikaripura when the tragedy took place. 

The speeding car rammed into the road divider and flipped over after the driver lost control over it near Ambalpady. 

Among the injured, the condition of a woman is said to be critical. She has been admitted to KMC Hospital in Manipal. The other passengers escaped with minor injuries.

A case has been registered at Udupi town traffic police station and investigations are on. More details are awaited.

Newsroom, Jul 15: At least three students have committed suicide in different parts of Karnataka after failing in II PUC examinations, the results of which were announced yesterday. 

Bhumika, an 18-year-old girl hailing from Mallipattene near Arakalagud town in Hassan district killed herself within hours after the announcement of results. 

Depressed over her failure in the examination, she consumed poison, the police sources said. 

In a separate incident, 18-year-old Chitra, who failed the II PUC examinations, committed suicide at her native Chikkamarasa village in Shivamogga district. 

She was studying in Government PU College in Kumsi and after knowing about her result in the final PU exam, she hanged herself to death at her house.

Similarly, an 18-year-old boy from Harihar taluk in Davanagere district committed suicide in his house after the announcement of the PUC results.
