Blessed month of Ramadan likely to fall on May 6 in UAE

Dubai, Feb 16: The Holy Month of Ramadan is expected to start on May 6, 2019 this year, while fasting hours are to go below 15 hours for the first time in four years, according to an expert in Dubai.

Ibrahim Al Jarwan, Astronomy and Metrology Researcher, said that the new moon of the holy month is to be 'born' on Sunday, May 5, 2019 at 2:46am UAE time, and disappear 30 minutes after sunset.

Ramadan 2019 has this surprise for UAE residents

"The new moon of the Holy Month of Ramadan will then be possibly seen on Monday, May 6, 2019 as per the astronomical standards of moon sighting."

However, the new moon of the month of Shawaal that falls after the Holy Month of Ramadan is expected to be sighted on Monday, June 03, 2019 at 2:02pm UAE time, he disclosed.

"The new moon of the month of Eid Al Fitr is to disappear three minutes after sunset, while the first day of Shawwal is to fall on Wednesday, June 05, 2019 as per the due standards of moon sighting."

Al Jarwan added that the maximum temperature expected in Ramadan is to be 41 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature expected is to be 23 degrees Celsius.

"The expected humidity is to hit 22 to 75 per cent, while the wind speed is to be 24km/hr. It rarely rains at that time of the year"

Fasting hours during the holy month of Ramadan are to be 13 hours and 10 minutes during the initial days of Ramadan and 13 hours and 40 minutes by the end of the holy month, he stated.

"Fasting hours from dawn and sunrise are expected to increase by 1.15 hours as the holy month progresses."

Dubai, Apr 16: Saudi Arabia reported 518 new cases of coronavirus, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 6380, the Ministry of Health announced on Thursday.

According to the ministry of health, the number of recoveries today were 59, making total of recoveries in the kingdom 990, with 71 critical cases in intensive care.

The ministry also confirmed 4 deaths, bringing the total number of deaths in the kingdom to 83.

Saudi Arabia imposed a 24-hour curfew and lockdown on the cities of Riyadh, Tabuk, Dammam, Dhahran and Hofuf and throughout the governorates of Jeddah, Taif, Qatif and Khobar. This week the curfew was extended until further notice by king Salman

Overall, Saudi Arabia has reported one of the lowest rates of infections in the region, with around 6000 cases in a population of over 30 million.

Private sector support

Saudi Arabia has allocated SR50 billion (Dhs49 billion)to support the private sector as part of its package of initiatives approved by King Salman on Wednesday aimed at mitigating economic repercussions from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The package targets small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and economic activities that have been most affected by the pandemic.

Dubai, Apr 24: The UAE reported 525 new COVID-19 cases on Friday. The Ministry of Health and Prevention said the total number of confirmed cases in the UAE is now 9,281.

MOHAP reported 8 deaths taking the total number of deaths in the country to 64. 123 recoveries have also been announced.

According to the Ministry of Health and Prevention, the latest cases were detected through its intensified investigation and examination procedures.

The ministry conducted over 32,000 additional COVID-19 tests among citizens and residents.

The ministry offered its sincere condolences to the families of the deceased. It also wished a speedy recovery to all patients and called upon the general public to strictly adhere to preventative measures out of concern for the health and safety of all.

Abu Dhabi, May 25: Dusty weather to persist in the UAE on Monday as well with a chance of rainfall in parts of the country, the national Met department reported.

According to the NCM, the weather today will be fair to partly cloudy, with a chance of some convective clouds formation by afternoon - eastward and northward - extending to some internal areas that may be associated with some rainfall.

The weather will get humid by night and Tuesday morning over some coastal areas.

NCM predicts a wet Eid break.

Sharjah Police issued a weather warning as heavy rain flooded roads in Sharjah's Kalba among other areas.

Moderate to fresh winds will gain strength during the day causing blowing dust and sand.

The sea will be slight to moderate in the Arabian Gulf and in Oman Sea.

Earlier on Sunday, a weather alert was issued by authorities as moderate to heavy rain - accompanied with hail - lashed parts of the UAE. A rainbow in Dubai skies cheered up residents, celebrating a unique Eid this year amid the coronavirus Covid-19 pandemic - by mostly staying home.
