Bengaluru, Jul 6: Farmers of Sompura village in Nelamangala taluk of Bengaluru Rural district have filed a complaint with the Lokayukta against former Industries minister Katta Subramanya Naidu and the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) for allowing BPL India Ltd to use industrial land for real estate benefit.Katta

The complaint filed by Kempanna, a resident of Bharatipura in Sompura, stated that the original land owners deserved further compensation as BPL, which was into manufacturing of television sets, failed to provide employment to the family members of the land losers.

KIADB had allotted 149 acres and 5.5 guntas in Sompura village to BPL in 1995 for setting up manufacturing units of colour picture tubes nd batteries. The villagers were awarded a compensation of Rs 1.1 lakh per acre, while the barren land was sold to BPL for Rs 3.80 lakh per acre. KIADB had laid down certain conditions in the lease deed which mandated BPL to submit blue print within one month, complete the construction of the factory within 20 months and mandatorily provide employment to the family members of the land losers in the factories.

“Around 60 families lost land. However, BPL did not use more than five acres and our requests for more compensation was also turned down by KIADB stating that BPL would provide jobs to our family members. In 2004, KIADB also allowed mortgage of land to raise loans from Bank of Baharain and Kuwait. Next year, BPL requested KIADB to execute an absolute sale deed in its favour,” Kempanna said.

On this requisition, KIADB issued a show cause notice to BPL asking why lands could not be restored in view of the latter using only 5.5% of the land. BPL then approached the then Minister for Large and Medium Industries Katta Subramanya Naidu requesting him to direct KIADB to ‘unconditionally’ execute the sale deed. On the directions of the minister, KIADB executed the sale deed in 2006.

The complainants have produced sale deeds executed by the BPL, which showed that 16 years after the lands were allotted to start industry, BPL sold the entire 149 acres and 5.5 guntas to different industries for a whopping Rs 350 crore. “The agricultural lands were acquired by KIADB to allow BPL to start industry and also provide jobs to locals. Without starting any industry, BPL made real estate business while the minister and KIADB helped it make windfall profit. We have requested the Lokayukta to recover the money from BPL and provide jobs or further compensation ot farmers,” Kempanna said.

Bengaluru, Apr 9: The Karnataka government is currently engaged in discussions with experts, specialists and other stakeholders to decide on its lockdown exit strategy and would take a final view by April 13, a key Minister said on Thursday.

"Day after tomorrow we have a VC (videoconference) with the Prime Minister," Medical Education Minister Sudhakar K, who is in-charge of all matters related to COVID-19, noted when asked about the States strategy.

He said a task force of specialist doctors on Wednesday submitted its report to the government, giving its recommendations.

"We are meeting lot of stakeholders of the society taking their views," the Minister said, adding, the Cabinet would also hold discussions.

"Finally, day after tomorrow, after discussing with the Prime Minister during the VC, the government will take a view on this by April 13 or so. As of now, we have not taken any view on it. We are studying all the reports," Sudhakar told PTI.

The Minister observed that the COVID-19 cases were slowly spiking in India but not multiplying the way they have in some other countries like Italy, Spain and the United States as the government had declared 21-day national lockdown early and taken other strict measures. "Let's see for one week and see."

"We need to fight this out collectively and by strictly following the quarantine methods and social distancing," Sudhakar stressed.

The Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa had on Wednesday said his government was in favour of lifting lock-down in districts which remained free from COVID-19 after April 14 subject to approval from the Centre.

"If the Prime Minister suggests to States to take decision (on lock-down) based on the situation in their respective States, my position is to take a call (on roll- back) in districts free from COVID-19," he had said.

"This is to allow people to go about their business and move about within the district and not from one district to another, after April 14, after taking the approval of the Prime Minister."

According to State officials, as many as 12 districts continue to remain free from COVID-19.

The task force has recommended continuation of lockdown at "hot spots" beyond April 14.

It has suggested that schools and colleges be shut till May 31, while non-air-conditioned shops can be opened.

Also, IT/BT companies, government offices providing essential services and factories can function with 50 per cent staff, the task force said in its recommendations for 15-day period after April 14.

Mysuru, Feb 29: More than 7,000 industrialists and entrepreneurs have left the country due to a deficit of trust, and incidents like the violence that rocked northeast Delhi will only affect the economy further, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, founder of Art of Living Foundation, said on Friday.

Sri Sri was speaking at a corporate wellness conference on the theme, 'Wellness and Wellbeing for a Progressive Nation', hosted by CII in Mysuru. He said an atmosphere of fear and mistrust pervades the country and does not augur well for the economy.

"Bankers, too, are suspicious of everyone and not extending loans to industrialists. This has posed lots of problems," he said. "This attitude among bank officials should go as life depends on trust. When there is a deficiency of trust, there is a possibility of the economy slowing down," Sri Sri added

He said society is now facing two important issues - aggression and depression. "Some people stage protests and pelt stones which happened recently in Delhi. This is really unfortunate," he said, adding, "Fear lurks in the nation's capital, which is being used by many to create terror. This will affect the economy. No country will prosper without peace."

Wellness is the need of the hour, he said, adding, "Corporates used to spend half their health to gain wealth and spend half their wealth to regain their health. This isn't good economics. We have to talk and convince people to invest in wellness."
