British woman proposes Mangaluru man through WhatsApp; swindles Rs 11 lakh

Mangaluru, Oct 17: A city-based man, who was searching for a new bride after ending his unsuccessful marriage with his first wife, was duped to the tune of over Rs 11 lakh by a ‘British woman’ and her two male accomplices.

The victim, a resident of Kinnigoli area in Mangaluru, had uploaded his personal details on a matrimony website in June 2017 and within a few days he received a reply on WhatsApp from England.

The man was on cloud nine when a stranger, who introduced herself as Stella Moris from the United Kingdom, expressed her interest to marry him.

After a few days of intimate chatting on WhatsApp, the clever woman asked the man to visit UK and promised him a job there.

After that, the man was asked to contact one Michael Anthony, who was staying in India. Morris gave him Anthony's contact number, who asked the victim to transfer Rs 26,560 for visa. The unsuspecting groom transferred the amount from his bank account.

A few later, the victim was asked to make an Anti-Terrorist Security Certificate. For that certificate, Antony asked him to transfer Rs 83,000.

In this manner, on the pretext of marriage paperwork or visa, Stella Moris and Michael Anthony cheated the man of Rs 11,39,535.

When the victim realised that he had been duped, he immediately complained to Mangaluru city cyber branch police, who launched an investigation.

Govt makes a U-turn, stops sale of non-essential items through e-commerce platforms

New Delhi, Apr 19: The government on Sunday prohibited the sale of non-essential items through e-commerce platforms during the ongoing lockdown, four days after allowing such companies to sale mobile phones, refrigerators and ready-made garments.

Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla issued an order excluding the non-essential items from sale by the e-commerce companies from the consolidated revised guidelines, which listed the exemption given to the services and people from the purview of the lockdown.

The order said the following clause -- "E-commerce companies. Vehicles used by e-commerce operators will be allowed to ply with necessary permissions" -- is excluded from the guidelines.

The previous order had said such items were allowed for sale through e-commerce platforms from April 20.

However, the reason for reversing the order is not known immediately.

Mangaluru: Bandh-like situation only in Bunder area; trade unions stage protest

Mangaluru, Jan 8: No bandh-like situation prevailed in the coastal district of Dakshina Kannada, despite a nationwide strike called by trade union employees. Day-to-day activities are not disturbed, as buses and auto-rickshaws are moving as usual.

However, in Bunder area, one of the business hubs of Mangaluru city, most of the shops today remained shut. As a result business was partially hit in the coastal city.

In other parts of Mangaluru city business firms, and market places are also open. Schools and colleges have not declared a holiday. government offices are also functioning as usually.

However, branches of many banks, excluding SBI, are closed for customers.

Members of various trade unions took out a rally and staged a protest in front of the Town Hall in Mangaluru.

Along with minimum wages, cancellation of contract labour system, no privatisation, welfare of farmers and other demands were also highlighted by the protestors.

Slogans were also raised against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and anti-labour policies of his government.

Members of AITUC, TUCC, AIUTUC, AIDYO, AIBEA, BSNLEU, INTUC, AIIEA, and associations of Anganwadi workers, mid-day meal workers, medical representatives, KSRTC employees, gram panchayat employees, and others took part in the protest.

Muslim Committee drops Jan 4 anti-CAA protest plan as cops refuse permission

Mangaluru, Jan 2: The Muslim Central Committee of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi has dropped its plan to stage a massive protest against the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Act and National Register of Citizens on January 4 at Mangaluru’s Nehru Maidan.

Addressing a press conference here today, committee chief K S Mohammed Masood made this announcement.

“All the 28 organisations that had decided to stage protest under the leadership of the Muslim Central Committee, have unanimously agreed to temporarily cancel the protest plan after the city police refused permission for the event,” he said.

Mr Masood requested the people, especially the youth, not to lose patience. “No one should head to Nehru Maidan on January 4 as Muslim leaders have unanimously decided to cancel the protest,” he urged.

S M Rasheed Haji, Y Abdulla Kunhi, Umar UH, Ibrahim Kodichal, B M Mumtaz Ali, Khasim H K, Mansoor Ahmed Azad and Asif Deals were present in the press meet.

Are u planning to approach the court for gaining the permission from the police, bcoz otherwise I don't think we will get the permission

Secondly, a few days back I wanted to contact Muslim central committee office to confirm if the protest Wil be there. I googled for the no, but the no. did not exist. Does that mean the Muslim central committee does not have an office or telephone no????

This only shows how organised we are.

Requesting Muslim central committee to get their house in order. Get more professional. Also consult people to utilise various platform to responsibly collect funds from so many ordinary bearys who want to donate money, but don't know whom to send it to.

We need an action committee to handle such situations. It must consist a battery of lawyers to fight the cases filed by the police.

If our leaders are old, they need to groom new leaders into the committee.

Moreover, it is important to question these so called leaders about their fecilitation program conducted for making kateel wen he won the election. Wat was the purpose of such fecilitation. Becoz I don't think he gives a damn when our community suffered. I question, whether all this is done in our name only to gain your contact and flourish ur business???
