BS Yeddyurappa is new president of Karnataka BJP

yeddyNew Delhi, Apr 8: BS Yeddyurappa has been appointed as the new chief of the Karnataka unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) while Keshav Prasad Maurya is the new party chief in UP.

Yeddyurappa is former chief minister of Karnataka and is currently the national vice president of the BJP.

Both Yeddyurappa and Maurya are Lok Sabha members.

The current president of Karnataka unit of BJP is Pralhad V. Joshi.

Yeddyurappa became the frontrunner to take up the post of the party's Karnataka unit after the Supreme Court last year declined to intervene and revoke a Karnataka High Court order putting on hold his prosecution in a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Yeddyurapa was forced to resign as chief minister in 2012 over corruption charges.

He later joined the party again in 2013 .

Bengaluru, May 1: Former underworld don and real-estate baron Muthappa Rai was admitted to Manipal hospital in Bengaluru on Thursday.

As per sources, Muttappa Rai’s condition is said to be serious.

Muthappa Rai was diagnosed with brain cancer two years ago and had undergone treatment at hospitals in New Delhi, Chennai and Bengaluru.

Mangaluru, Jan 20: A suspicious unattended laptop bag with the suspicion of containing “something harmful” was found abandoned at the Mangaluru International Airport on Monday.

The bag was found kept in the rest area meant for the passengers outside the airport. According to reports, two men came in auto and left the bag near the ticket counter, which is near the VIP vehicles parking area.

The bag, which was lying unattended near the entrance of the airport was removed from the spot by the airport security personnel at 8.45 am.

Bomb detection squad personnel has rushed to the spot and shifted the bag to a safe zone, said Mangaluru Commissioner of Police P S Harsha.

Chikkamagaluru, May 9: Karnataka Minister for Tourism C T Ravi on Friday said that Indians who are stranded abroad are being repatriated into the country on the pre-condition of quarantine.

“The Centre is repatriating Indians who are stranded in around 37 countries, amid the lock-down, of which people from Saudi Arabia and Dubai will be brought via ship for free. These people will have to undergo the mandatory quarantine period once they land in the country,” Ravi told media here.

The government has accorded priority to the elderly and pregnant women during the repatriation process. The state government has held due discussions with the Centre in this regard, he added.
