Bengaluru, Oct 5: Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Friday thanked the Central government for the financial assistance of Rs. 1,200 crores to the flood-hit Karnataka while Congress slammed the move calling it a ''humiliation'' to the people of the state.

"Central government has released an amount of Rs. 1200 crores for Karnataka in advance from the National Disaster Response Fund. Expressing gratitude for the support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on behalf of the people of Karnataka," Mr Yediyurappa tweeted.

The centre also approved financial assistance to the flood-hit Bihar as well.

"Centre approves finance assistance additional financial assistance of Rs. 1,813.75 crore from National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) to the state of Karnataka and Bihar," said an official statement.

Karnataka unit of the Congress party, on the other hand, slammed the move saying it is a humiliation for the people of the state.

Congress, from its official Twitter handle, said that the allocation is a humiliation as compared to the state government's damage assessment of over Rs. 35,000 crore.

"People of the state are humiliated with the allocation of Rs. 1,200 crore as against the state government assessment of Rs. 35,000 crore. This shows that the centre has zero confidence on BS Yediyurappa government and doesn't believe him," Karnataka Congress tweeted.

It added that the patience of Kannadigas patience is being put to test by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on a regular basis!

Mr Yediyurappa had on Thursday said that the state has enough funds to implement effective flood relief measures and denied opposition's claim that the Centre failed to release additional funds for the same.

"More than 88 persons have lost their lives, still 10 persons are missing; more than 7 lakh people have been rendered houseless; 1465 rehabilitation centres are sheltering about 4.6 lakh homeless people," KPCC president Dinesh Gundu Rao had said in a letter to the state Governor.

When the black and white photos of the ‘London to Calcutta (Kolkata) bus service’ went viral on social media recently, the response of some of the netizens was “stop spreading fake news!” But, it isn’t a fake news. The late 1950s indeed offered people a lavish bus trip from London to Kolkata.

While one of the viral images shows passengers at the Victoria Coach Station, London, boarding 'Albert', the other image show the same bus travelling through a valley. In another image the bus is stationed at a tourist spot. All these photos were captured during the bus’ maiden international journey in 1957.

An image of the bus ticket is also making rounds on social media, that shows the route of the bus — London, Belgium, West Germany, Austria,Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, West Pakistan, India. The route in India followed Delhi, Agra, Allahabad, Banaras and finally Calcutta.

The ticket shows that a one side travel cost 145 pounds (13,644 Rupees at the present day) back then, and it was inclusive of all the luxury provided during the run.

The luxurious bus provided the facilities of reading, individual sleeping bunks, radio/taped music for parties and pleasure and fan heaters, among other things. The brochure reads, "Your complete home while you travel."

Some of the tour highlights included Banaras on the Ganges, The Taj Mahal, The Raj Path, The Rhine Valley and The Peacock Throne. Passengers reportedly got free shopping days in New Delhi, Tehran, Salzburg, Kabul, Istanbul and Vienna.

Bengaluru, Jul 31: BJP leader CP Yogeshwar has slammed Yediyurappa supporters and said the JDS leader HD Kumaraswamy is supporting BJP.

Speaking to the reporters, Yogeshwar said, "Congress president DK Shivakumar and Janata Dal (Secular) leader and former CM HD Kumaraswamy, both are Yediyurappa supporters."

"His words seem to support the BJP. All that Kumaraswamy had said, during our government's rule, are happening including the officers they mentioned are being transferred. He has come forward to support BJP from the back door," Yogeshwar.

While reacting to allegations made by CP Yogeshwar, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president DK Shivakumar has said that earlier Yogeshwar requested for State Legislative Council (MLC) member ticket and now such people are blaming me without any evidence. This shows his dishonesty to his party and the kind of person he is."
