Mysuru, Apr 26: Former Uttar Pradesh chief minister and Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati has called upon the people of Karnataka to reject both Congress and the BJP.

Addressing the Kumara Parva convention, attended by both JD(S) and BSP candidates at the Maharaja’s College Grounds here, she said that both the national parties have neglected the poor, the Dalits and the backward classes.

“The Congress, which had a strong hold over the governments in the country for several decades, did not allow the downtrodden to prosper, for its political gains. The BJP, which has now come to power at Centre with an absolute majority is also treading the Congress path. The poor and the middle class are suffering due to the wrong policies of the government. Farmers are in dire crisis. So, both the parties should be rejected, for a better future of the nation,” she said.

“In view of promoting the welfare of the Dalits and backward classes, the BSP has formed a coalition with the JD(S) in Karnataka. When the BSP was in power in Uttar Pradesh, it strived for the development of all communities. If the JD(S)-BSP combine is voted to power, Kumaraswamy will give a pro-people administration in Karnataka,” she said.

Commenting on the poll surveys, which peg the JD(S) seats at 25-40, she appealed to the people not to believe such surveys. “Powerful political parties sponsor such surveys and use them to mislead the people and to manipulate the election results,” she said.
