BSY, Shobha, Kateel stoking violence in Dakshina Kannada: CM

Mysuru, Jul 15: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has accused the BJP leaders of instigating communal violence in Dakshina Kannada district.

Speaking to reporters at Mysuru Airport in Mandakalli near here on Friday, the chief minister said BJP leaders, including party state president B S Yeddyurappa, MPs Shobha Karandlaje and Naleen Kumar Kateel are fomenting violence for political gains.

“Yeddyurappa and Kateel have said that the state will be up in flames if RSS leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat is arrested. Why are they mentioning Bhat’s name? Did I tell the police to arrest him? Dakshina Kannada District in-charge Minister B Ramanath Rai has directed the police to arrest those who try to disturb communal harmony,” Siddaramaiah said.

“BJP members are indulging in destruction of the state while we (the Congress) are rebuilding it with constructive activities. It has become a habit for the BJP to instigate violence,” he said.

Asked about the BJP’s allegation that former IPS officer Kempaiah has been tasked with monitoring law and order in Dakshina Kannada district, the chief minister said that Kempaiah is only an advisor to the Home minister.

Director General and Inspector General of Police, two IGPs, who had earlier worked in Dakshina Kannada, and an ADGP are camping in Mangaluru monitoring the law and order situation. The situation is now totally under control, he said.

Reacting to the BJP’s comments that the law and order has collapsed in the state, Siddaramaiah said that the real law and order problem is in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, where the BJP is the ruling party.

Bantwal, Jan 11: Seven people were booked for organising protest without taking permission or intimation, police said on Saturday.

The alleged accused were identified as Nandavar Juma Masjid President Basheer, Khateeb of the Masjid Abdul Majeed Darimi, Gram Panchayath President Mohammed Shareef Nandavar, former President of Masjid Majeed, Arif Nandavar, Mustafa and Abubaker.

They have been booked for allegedly organising protest outside Nandavar Juma Masjid on Jan 10 afternoon without intimation to police or obtaining permission.

Bengaluru, Apr 27: As many as 345 Bengaluru-based journalists tested negative for coronavirus on Monday after undergoing a medical check-up got up for them at a hospital here, a top official said.

They had undergone the tests at the Sir C V Raman General Hospital here on April 25 and the results came out negative on Monday. They were among a total of 1,170 journalists who took the tests at the four-day medical check-up camp at the Hospital here from April 23.

"The medical check-up was done in four slots at the Hospital here from Thursday and concluded on Monday. A total of 1,170 journalists undertook the tests, 480 of them on Monday alone, the joint director of the Department of Information and Public Relation D P Muralidhar said.

The test reports of the 480 journalists may come out on Wednesday, he said. Only one journalist tested positive so far and has been admitted to the designated COVID-19 hospital, he said, adding 36 of his primary and secondary contacts have been quarantined.

Bengaluru, Jun 25: A total of 442 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Karnataka on Thursday taking the total count of cases in the state to 10,560.

According to the State Health Department, there are 3,716 active cases and 6,670 patients have been discharged after treatment. Six more deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 170.

India's COVID-19 count reached 4,73,105 on Thursday with the highest single-day spike of 16,922 cases in the last 24 hours.
