New Delhi, Feb 21: Draft papers for the Union Budget to be presented on February 28, government documents on ONGC Videsh and, petroleum and natural gas opportunities in Sri Lanka are among the highly classified files stolen from the offices of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry in central Delhi’s Shastri Bhawan.

On Friday, police arrested seven more people in the case related to corporate espionage. Former journalist Santanu Saikia, energy consultant Prayas Jain, Shailesh Saxena of Reliance Industries, Vinay Kumar of Essar, K K Naik of Cairn India, Subhash Chandra of Jubilant Energy and Rishi Anand of Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group were also arrested.

Saikia is associated with an energy portal Indianpetro. com, while Jain is associated with an oil and gas firm based in New Delhi and Melbourne. Others have been accused of buying the leaked documents, analysing them and selling them off to corporate houses. The arrests in the case made by police have reached 12.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sanjay Khanagwal of the Patiala House Court in central Delhi remanded Shantanu, Prayas, Lalta and Rakesh in the custody of the crime branch until February 23. The remaining accused have been sent to 14-day judicial custody.

The crime branch on Friday took some of the accused to Shastri Bhawan as part of its investigation. Police told the court that Santanu and Prayas gave Rs 70,000 to Lalta and Rakesh every month for procuring the documents. “Lalta and Prayas were on their pay role,” police told court.

The documents were shared with corporate houses and had details of policies related to oil pricing as well as imports. The FIR filed by crime branch police on Wednesday said the documents were recovered from Lalta Prasad and his brother Rakesh Kumar. “Seven documents were recovered from a black bag carried by Lalta, while nine documents were recovered from a brown envelope carried by Rakesh on February 17,” said Joint Commissioner of Delhi Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav.

Domestic flights resumed operations on a truncated schedule on Monday with the first aircraft departing from the Delhi Airport for Pune, more than two months after a nationwide lockdown was announced to combat COVID-19.

The first flight to take off was an IndiGo aircraft to Pune, flying passengers stranded in the national capital since the lockdown was announced on March 24.

Passengers were screened at the airport with electronic thermometers, and revised protocol for air travel that included santisation of luggage through ultra-violent scanners, and maintaining physical distancing.

Only asymptomatic passengers were allowed to enter the airport.

Passengers were also seen wearing face masks and face shields given to them at the embarkation point by the airline to minimise the chances of infection while onboard.

The first flight arrived at Delhi Airport from Ahmedabad – a SpiceJet aircraft – at around 8:00 am.

BJD Lok Sabha member Anubhav Mohanty was among those who took the Air Vistara flight to Bhubaneshwar that departed Delhi airport at 6:50 am.

The first flight to take off from Mumbai was an IndiGo aircraft that departed for Patna at 6:45 am, while passengers from Lucknow were the first to reach the financial capital on an IndiGo aircraft that touched down at 8:20 am.

The food & beverage and retail outlets, which were closed for the past 63 days, opened at Terminal 3 of Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport.

The flight services resumed after a day of long and hard negotiations between the Centre and the states on Sunday.

All states finally agreed to accept at least some flights but announced different quarantine and self-isolation rules for arriving passengers to address apprehension about infections being brought in from other cities.

The Centre had issued guidelines for all modes of domestic travel that advised all asymptomatic passengers to self-monitor their health parameters for 14 days on completion of the journey and report to health authorities if they displayed any symptoms for COVID-19.

However, the Centre had allowed state governments to prescribe their own health protocols for disembarking passengers which led to differential guidelines across the country.

Feb 1: The Congress on Saturday expressed hope that the Union Budget would provide relief to the salaried class through tax cuts and invest in rural India besides providing a healing touch to the common man and industry facing “hardship” since demonetisation.

Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said the last budget led to crashing consumption levels, soaring unemployment and falling GDP. “Budget 2019= Consumption crashed, Unemployment soared, Farm distress surged, Incomes declined, Investments slumped, Public spending fell, GDP nose dived!,” Surjewala tweeted. “Yet, Modiji gave Corporate Tax Cuts of Rs 1,45,000 crore. Let Budget 2020 give tax cuts to Salaried Class and invest in Rural India,” he said

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot hoped the budget fulfils expectations of the common people. “Budget 2020 is the time for NDA government to provide a healing touch to common people and industries facing hardships since noteban. Hope the budget fulfils expectations of common people and provide relief across sections,” Gehlot said.
