Buffaloes stall Tipu Express, disrupt Mysuru-Bengaluru train traffic

Mandya, Jul 29: Thousands of train passengers on the Mysuru-Bengaluru stretch had a harrowing time on Friday as services were stopped for over two hours after the Tipu Express hit two buffaloes and came to a halt near Hanakere railway station, about 50km from Mysuru.

downloadAccording to railway officials, the loco pilot of Tipu Express, going from Mysuru to Bengaluru, applied brakes at 12.10pm when he saw two buffaloes on the track. When the brakes were suddenly applied, the train air compressor (main component of the braking system) was damaged and the air brake pipes were ripped off.

The pilot succeeded in stopping the train without any danger. One buffalo was caught under the bogies and the other was seriously injured. Tipu Express could not move any further. Railway engineers, who rushed to the spot tried to repair the compressor, but in vain. Finally, they said the locomotive was not fit for further journey.

Railway officials summoned a replacement engine and the train resumed its journey after it was fitted with another engine at 2.30pm.

The incident led to a complete stop of movement of all other trains on the Mysuru-Bengaluru stretch. Though Tipu Express resumed journey after two hours, it took a few more hours for train movement to be normalized.

Bengaluru, Mar 25: Karnataka Minister Dr K Sudhakar has been allocated all matters related to COVID-19 by the Governor on the advice of Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa.
Health Minister B Sriramulu, who earlier handled matters related to COVID-19, has been allotted the Backward Class Welfare Development portfolio.
Karnataka on Monday announced a complete lockdown in the state till April 1.
"In the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, the entire state will be locked down from 12 o'clock night of March 23 to April 1. People are requested to strictly follow it to contain the coronavirus spread," Yediyurappa had said.

Bengaluru, Feb 9: A man in Karnataka fled just before his wedding after his parents cancelled the ceremony over a disagreement about the saree that the bride wore duiring a ritual.

BN Raghukumar, who belonged to a village near Karnataka's Hassan town, did not to show up at his wedding, acting on the directions of his parents. The incident took place on Wednesday.

"We have registered a cheating case against Raghukumar. He is absconding," Hassan Superintendent of Police Srinivas Gowda told news agency. The police have also registered a case against the groom's parents.

Raghukumar and BR Sangeetha fell in love a year ago and decided to get married with the consent of their respective families.

However, Raghukumar's parents asked Sangeetha to change her saree during some rituals as they were not happy with its quality.

Following this dispute, the groom's parents cancelled the wedding scheduled on Thursday and directed their son to run away.

Madikeri, Apr 16: A man from Ketumotte in Virajpet, who was cured of COVID-19 and returned to his home, has again been admitted to the hospital, following a complaint of fever, on Wednesday noon.

The man, who voluntarily got admitted to the hospital, is being treated in the isolation ward of the Covid-19 hospital. His throat swab and blood samples have been sent for testing. The report is likely to be out by Thursday morning.

After getting discharged from the hospital on April 7, he was home quarantined. After a week, he developed fever again. The person has not moved out of his house and the people need not fear, said Deputy Commissioner Annies Kanmani Joy.
