Businessman faces arrest after his wife accuses him of giving instant triple talaq

Bengaluru, Nov 8: A businessman in the city is now facing criminal charge after his wife of wife of 19 years accused him of giving her instant triple talaq for not giving birth to even a single boy.

Following a complaint filed by Noor Fathima, the RT Nagar police booked her husband Syed Afsar under the controversial Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019, and have issued a notice to him to appear for questioning.

Noor said she has been married to Afsar for 19 years and they have five daughters. While their eldest daughter was born mentally challenged, she said she has been blamed, abused and assaulted for giving birth to girls.

Recently, Afsar quarreled with Fathima, pronounced talaq thrice and sent her to her parents’ house.

Days later, when she asked him to take her back home, Afsar said he had pronounced triple talaq to annul their marriage and he had nothing to do with her.

Fathima alleged in her complaint that she had been physically and verbally harassed for bearing girl children.

Bengaluru, Jul 13:  Karnataka Deputy chief minister Dr CN Ashwath Narayan on Monday urged chief minister BS Yediyurappa to cancel the license of private hospitals and private medical colleges which did not hand over their 50 per cent beds, to the government, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister's Office said.

On June 26, the Karnataka government reserved about 50 per cent for COVID-19 patients in some private hospitals in Bengaluru.

Earlier in the day, former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy said that the state government should provide vitamin C drug, Ayush Ministry-certified immunity boosters and sanitisers to every household in the wake of the coronavirus spread.

According to the Union Health Ministry, Karnataka has recorded 38,843 cases of COVID-19 to date.

Bengaluru, Jan 27: Leaders cutting across political parties in Karnataka condoled the demise of former minister Amarnath Shetty, who passed away on Monday after a prolonged illness.

Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa expressed “shock” over the death of the former minister. “May his soul rest in peace. My deepest condolences to his family members,” tweeted CM’s official Twitter handle.

Bidar, Mar 4: The Principal District and Sessions Court in Bidar, on Tuesday, granted conditional bail to five functionaries of Shaheen School management — Abdul Qadeer, Allauddin Pasha, Mehtab Sait, Bilal Inamdar and Abdul Khaleq — who moved anticipatory bail in a sedition case slapped against their school recently.

Conditions

Senior advocate B.T. Venkatesh from Bengaluru argued for the petitioners. Managoli Premavati Mallikarjuna granted bail on certain conditions, including execution of personal bond of ₹2 lakh each.

The sedition case was filed against the Shaheen School management for its children staging a play as part of their annual day celebrations on January 21, in which a character had allegedly delivered a dialogue against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

While Nazbunnisa, the mother of the child who had allegedly delivered the dialogue in the play, and Fareeda Begum, the headmistress of the school, were arrested, they were subsequently released on bail last month.
