Businessman rapes woman techie, blackmails her after her bro fails to return investment

Bengaluru, Mar 4: The police have registered an FIR against a 36-year-old businessman for allegedly raping and blackmailing a 29-year-old software engineer after her brother was unable to return his investment due to financial loss in the company.

The victim stated in her complaint that, a series of incidents happened between December 2016 to February 2019, since his torture and harassment were unbearable, she finally decides to file a complaint.

She alleged in the complaint that, Balaji L,  a resident of Hulimavu had invested around Rs 1 lakh in the company owned by her brother in December 2016. But the company incurred financial losses and her brother was unable to return his investment on time.

Balaji then started harassing her brother and also abducted him a few times demanding the return of his investment with interest. She intervened and paid for his brother’s release. Balaji then started visiting her house with the pretext of recovering dues and during his visits, he used to physically harass her.

She further added that, on one visit, he raped her and took videos and started seeking sexual favours. He even threatened to upload the videos on social media, if she failed to cooperate with him. She finally felt that his harassment had become unbearable and decided to file a complaint with the Hulimavu police and met DCP South-east and sought action against him.

Hulimavu police said that they have booked Balaji for rape and extortion and are on the lookout for him.

Mangaluru, July 10: Dakshina Kannada, which has emerged as one of the hotspots of covid-19 in Karnataka, has recorded at least six novel coronavirus related deaths in past 24 hours. 

According to sources, four people lost their battle with the novel coronavirus in Wenlock, the designated covid hospital. 

A 35-year-old man from Hosabettu, who was tested positive for COVID-19 recently, died at the Wenlock COVID hospital in the morning.

A 58-year-old woman from Thokkottu, a 67-year-old man from Ullal and a 65-year-old man from Falnir also passed away in the same hospital. 

Two other covid patients passed away in private hospitals. 

With this, the total number of death of covid patients in the district rose to 36.

Mangaluru, Jan 17: A poultry truck transporting chickens overturned on Friday at Perne village near Uppinangady on Mangaluru-Bengaluru National Highway, killing 200 of them.

Police said that the truck was headed towards Mangaluru from Uppinangady when the truck driver lost control of the vehicle causing it to topple. As many as 200 chickens were killed in the mishap.

Another vehicle was later used to transport the remaining chickens.

Bengaluru, Mar 6: At least 13 persons, including women and children, were killed and five critically wounded when an SUV collided with a car that had crashed against a road divider moments ago near Kunigal in Tumakuru district of Karnataka in the early hours of Friday, police said.

Of the victims, while 12 died on the spot, a child breathed his last in a hospital, they added.

The injured were admitted to the hospital, the police said.

Among the dead, 10 were from Tamil Nadu and three from Bengaluru. All of them were pilgrims who were on their way to Dharmasthala in Karnataka.

There were five women and two children among the dead, the police said.

"Thirteen persons have died. The incident occurred post midnight. A car crashed against the road divider and another car collided with it," Tumakuru Superintendent of Police (SP) K Vamsi Krishna said.

The police had to struggle to pull the bodies out from the mangled vehicles.

On learning about the incident, relatives of the victims rushed to the spot.
