Bengaluru, Dec 29: More than a decade after he was expelled from the Janata Dal (Secular), Congress leader and Karnataka State Planning Commission vice-chairman C M Ibrahim is reportedly making preparations to return to the former prime minister H D Deve Gowda led party.

cmiMr Ibrahim, who has a history of party hopping, has been constantly criticising chief minister Siddaramaiah since last year and many a times openly praised the JD(S) supremo.

Interestingly, Mr Ibrahim has close friendship with Mangaluru-bsed industrialist B M Farooq, who was recently made JD(S) chief general secretary. On the other hand, JD(S) also trying to bring in someMuslim faces' after taking action against rebel Muslim MLAs Zameer Ahmed Khan and Iqbal Ansari.

It is worth mentioning here that Mr Ibrahim, who had won the trust of Deve Gowda after migrating to erstwhile Janata Dal from Congress party decades ago, had began criticising him before being expelled from the JD(S) along with Siddaramaiah in 2005.

Even though Siddaramaiah joined Congress soon, Mr Ibrahim joined the party in 2008. Later, Mr Ibrahim emerged as a confidante of Siddaramaiah and the latter, after becoming the chief minister of Karnataka, did not hesitate to give the former the coveted post of the vice-chairman of Planning Commission in spite of severe opposition from several party leaders.

Mr. Ibrahim, who first became an MLA in 1978 on the Janata Party ticket, joined the Congress in 1980 and became the Labour Minister in the R Gundu Rao ministry. He was then known as the 'right hand' of Gundu Rao. After Gundu Rao asked Mr Ibrahim to quit the ministry over corruption allegation, the latter had distanced himself from the Congress and gradually became close to Deve Gowda.

After years of political hibernation, he joined the Janata Dal in the 1990s and became its president. He was the Union Civil Aviation Minister in the Deve Gowda ministry. Mr Ibrahim is known for his oratory and public speeches as he enjoys command over Kannada and many other regional languages.

First of all he is an opportunist politician, giving big speeches not enough, he is not a minority leader nor a minority face. Chief Minister given a very good post for him even though he has not won any assembly seat! All minority community is not behind him. If BJP or Sangh Parivar offer him better post, he will not hesitate to join.

Mangaluru: The police team investigating the case of bomb planting at the international airport here on January 20, took suspect Aditya Rao to several places in the city where he had frequented in the past few months, police said on Wednesday.

Police had earlier recovered a box from his bank locker at Udupi that contained a white powder which he claimed was cyanide. The substance has been sent to the Forensic Science laboratory for confirmation.

On further interrogation, Rao told police that he had a locker in a bank in Mangaluru also, where he was taken. Only some papers were seen in the locker, police said. He was also taken to the room where he stayed while he was working at a hotel in Balmatta here and to a hardware workshop from where he had purchased some spare parts, they said.

A 'live' explosive device was found in an unattended bag near a ticket counter of the departure gate of the airport here on January 20, triggering a scare before it was defused at a nearby open ground.

Police had released a picture of a man captured on CCTV camera as the suspect who placed the bomb and Rao later surrendered. Meanwhile, sources said the airport authorities got an anonymous call on Monday evening that a bomb had been planted in the airport. After thorough search, it was found to be a hoax. City police commissioner P S Harsha has warned of stringent action against those who make such calls.

Madikeri, May 30: Environmentalists have opposed the Karnataka Forest Department and the Public Works Department’s move to erect concrete pillars and marking of trees to construct a proposed road from Patti to Todikana within the Talacauvery Wildlife Sanctuary near Talacauvery in Kodagu District.

They have urged for immediate stopping of road works in a protected area.

In a letter to Conservator of Forests, Mysuru Circle, T Heeralal and DCF (Territorial and In-charge Wildlife) S Prabhakaran, the Trustees of Wildlife First K M Chinnappa and A A Poovaiah have termed the road works illegal and violates Supreme Court order on National Parks and Wildlife Sanctuaries.

The letter’s copy has also been sent to Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Head of Forest Force), and Kodagu Deputy Commissioner urging them to halt the progress of the road works. “Patti and Todikana are at the core of the Talacauvery Wildlife Sanctuary and such unilateral activities without complete approval on completion of the statutorily mandated procedure (both under Forest Conservation Act and Wild Life Protection Act),” the letter stated.

The letter added that they would be forced to move the Courts and the officers who have given approval to the project would face legal consequences.
