CAA will marginalize Indian Muslims: A P Aboobacker Musliar

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 31: All India Jamiyyathul Ulama general secretary Kanthapuram A.P. Aboobacker Musliar has said that the nationwide protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act had united people of different religions and brought them on a common platform to oppose the unconstitutional law.

Delivering the keynote address at the inauguration of a State-level campaign in connection with the 43rd anniversary of Jamia Markaz here on Monday, Aboobacker Musliar, who is also known as the grand Mufti of India, said the CAA was intended to marginalise the Muslim community.

“If the Government’s contention that the Act was aimed at granting citizenship to persecuted sections in neighbouring countries is to be accepted, it should recognise the Rohingya Muslims as eligible for citizenship in the light of the oppression they face,” he said.

Lauding the decision of the governments of Kerala and West Bengal not to go ahead with the National Population Register (NPR), he said the NPR would set the ground for the implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

Ports Minister Kadannapally Ramachandran presided. Mayor K.Sreekumar inaugurated a campaign to plant one million trees as part of the conference.

Udupi, Jan 25: The accused, who planted a crude bomb at the Mangalore International Airport on January 20, was brought to Udupi on Saturday, to collect information, as part of the spot investigation, police said here.

According to police officials, accused Aditya Rao was brought to Karnataka Bank Kadiyali branch, where Rao had a Safe Locker. The team opened the locker and seized the documents, along with a Box.

They said the seized documents, along with the Box, will be sent to the FSL for investigation.

Bengaluru, Jul 29: State officials will conduct Common Entrance Test (CET) exam as per the instructions given by the state high court, said Karnataka deputy chief minister CN Ashwathnarayan on Tuesday.

"Officials have informed that they are all set to conduct exams on July 30 and 31. We will put this matter in front of the high court. As per the instructions of the high court, we will move forward," said Ashwathnarayan.

This comes after Karnataka High court asked the state government to reconsider the decision of conducting the CET exam.

"...I had called an emergency meeting with district collectors, officials of education, transport, health, police department. And, I took information about the preparedness for conducting the CET exam," he added.

Karnataka CET Exam is a state-level entrance exam organised for providing admissions in Engineering, Pharmacy, B Pharma and other courses offered by colleges and institutions located in the state.

Bengaluru, Jun 5: Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Thursday said government employees and owners of tractors and other vehicles must return the BPL ration cards immediately, failing which stringent legal action would be initiated against them.

The CM issued directions in this regard to officials as he conducted a review meeting of the Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs department today. Proper supply of ration must be ensured to eligible beneficiaries and action has to be taken to prevent misuse of the facility by those not eligible, Yediyurappa was quoted as saying by his office in a release.

Nearly 63,000 ration cards were cancelled before the COVID-19 outbreak, he noted and directed officials to initiate a campaign to cancel all illegal ration cards. "this campaign would help in curtailing the financial burden on the State's reserves," he added.

In the backdrop of coronavirus pandemic, both the Central and State governments have distributed sufficient quantities of ration, and about 95 percent ration cardholders have availed the benefit, the release said. Under the Chief Ministers Anila Bhagya Scheme, 98,079 beneficiaries have been given 3 gas cylinders free of cost, it said.
