Campaign to promote peace, humanity in Dakshina Kannada

Mangaluru, Aug 19: The Jamaat-e-Islami Hind will be holding a nation-wide campaign on Peace and Humanity' between August 21 and September 4 to address the onslaught of communal fascism in India.

Dakshina Kannada district unit of the JIH too has planned a series of programmes as part of this campaign. The members of the reception committee of the campaign, comprising of prominent persons of the society, on Friday through a press conference urged the people of the district to join hands together to strengthen communal harmony in the region.

Addressing media persons Dr Satyanarayana Mallipatna, an academician and honorary president of the district level reception committee, said that the Dakshina Kanand was passing through a period of turmoil.

“Innocents are being attacked and killed for political reasons. This development is damaging the reputation of the coastal district,” he lamented and called upon the people to establish peace in the society.

1peace“Indian society is pluralistic in nature. The diversity that exists in India in terms of religion, culture and language is highly unique. People of our district should realise this and uphold unity and brotherhood,” he said.

Stating that the main target of the campaign was the youth of the country, he said that the new generation should be standard-bearers of brotherhood, peace, friendship and mutual support and cooperation.

He said that as part of the campaign taluk level goodwill forums will be formed. Besides following programmes will be conducted in the district:

1. Individual visit and distribution of folders and broachers at a wide range. 2. Speech competition for high school students. 3. Essay competition for college students. 4. Street play. 5. Competition of making documentary film. 6. Rural level programmes in all over district. 7. Childrens rally. 8. Multi language kavigoshti. 9. Distribution of two sadhbhavana award at district level. 10. On august 30 symposium at town hall, Mangaluru.

Committee president Prasad Rai Kallimar, vice president Sanjeeva Poojary, general secretary Muhammad Kunhi, and Umar UH were present at the press meet.

Meanwhile, release issued by the JIH stated that the goal of the campaign is to bring about some firm and perceptible changes in society.

“While the objective of this campaign is also to appeal and rouse the conscience of the country, but beyond that our goal is to ensure the establishment of a string of institutions right from the community level to the local level and the promotion of necessary practices to help consistently counter this menace of communal hatred,” it said.

Mysuru, Jan 12: Karnataka Minister for Primary and Secondary Education S Suresh Kumar on Saturday said that the State government is planning to introduce 'Bag less Day’ in a week from next Academic year across the State.

He said that the State government is also working out on reducing the weight of the School bags carried by children.

The Minister was speaking after inaugurating ‘Civic sense is my duty – Questioning is my right’ programme organised at Kautilya Vidyalaya in Kanakadasanagar here.

Bengaluru, Mar 13: This year, schoolchildren will have a longer summer vacation starting early, thanks to the new coronavirus onslaught. Primary and Secondary Education Minister Suresh Kumar on Thursday announced that schools in Bengaluru Urban and Rural districts will be closed for vacation from Friday.

Classes from LKG to sixth standard will closed for vacations till the schools reopen in June, while students of classes 7-9 will have ‘study holidays’ until their examinations commence (as scheduled by their respective schools). Their summer vacations will begin with the completion of their examinations.

Class 10 students will have their examinations according to the dates scheduled earlier.

“Let us not treat this as a panic reaction or something to cause a scare. This measure is taken as a precaution. A lot of parents were worried about their children. We have already announced the closure of schools from nursery to sixth standards. Now, we are declaring official holidays upto sixth standard. Students of standards 1-6 will all be promoted based on their formative assessment,” said Kumar adding, “no student will be detained in those classes.”

With respect to seventh, eighth and ninth standards, the schools will be closed for study holidays and students will have to return to write their examinations.“We will not interfere in the examination schedules of CBSE and ICSC schools. However, state syllabus schools have to finish their examinations before March 23”, Public Instruction Commissioner KG Jagadeesh said.Just a couple of papers of the PU examinations are left after which their holidays will begin.

Exam timetable not changed

Miscreants are spreading rumours that SSLC examination dates are changed because of the new coronavirus outbreak. However, Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board director V Sumangala categorically said the examinations will be held from March 27  to April 9 as scheduled earlier.

Udupi, Feb 23: Tanushree Pithrody, a 10-year-old girl from Udyavar and class 6 student of St Cecily’s School, here and a Guinness World Record holder, erased the old record by covering the 100 metres 'Chakrasana race' in one minute 14 seconds to write her name in the Golden Book of World Records.

This was announced by Manish Bishnoi, Head, Golden Book of World Records, who handed over the Certificate to Ms Tanushree, who was accompanied by her father Uday Kumar and mother Sandhya here on Saturday.

The previous record-holder in this category was Samiksha Dogra [11 years and 1 month] from Rampur Bhushar, Himachal Pradesh, who had set a time of 6 minutes and 2 seconds on June14,2018.

Later speaking to scribes here, Ms Tanushree said that she was delighted that she was able to break the record. “When I was practicing, I used to finish it in around 2 minutes. This is my fifth record. I dedicate my success to my parents and my Yoga guru,”she added.

Ms Tanushree has also created a record for the ‘most forward rolls with Dhanurasana Yoga pose in 1 minute’ by performing 62 rolls and she also created the ‘fastest 100 forward rolls with Dhanurasana Yoga pose’ in 1 minute and 40 seconds on February 23, 2019 and entered the Golden Book of World Records.

In 2018, she set the Guinness World Record for ‘most full-body revolutions maintaining a chest stand position’ with 42 full-body revolutions in one minute, and on 21 March, 2019 she broke that record with 44.
