Udupi, Dec 8: Speculations are rife in political circles that former minister K Jayaprakash Hegde, who is currently lodged in Bharatiya Janata Party, may migrate to Janata Dal (Secular), if the ruling party of Karnataka assures him of ticket from Udupi-Chikkamagaluru constituency in 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

Mr Hegde, who was elected to the parliament in 2012 bypoll to Udupi-Chikkamagaluru constituency as a Congress candidate, later lost the constituency to BJP’s Shobha Karandlaje in 2014 general polls.

He joined the saffron party in March 2017, almost one and a half year after he was expelled from the Congress for contesting the state legislative council polls as a rebel candidate. Prior to becoming an MP, he was elected thrice to the Karnataka Legislative Assembly from the Brahmavara constituency and served as minister holding various portfolios.

Sources say that Mr Hegde is not happy with the way BJP leaders treating him for past one and a half year. Though Mr Hegde, has not publicly expressed his dissatisfaction so far, sources say that he has been silently working towards taking a big step ahead of looming Lok Sabha polls.

On the other hand, chief minister H D Kumaraswamy, who wants to strengthen JD(S) in coastal Karnataka, is also reportedly considering to welcome Mr Hegede, who has a large number of supporters in the region.

JD(S) requires green signal from Congress before fielding any candidate in 2019 polls if the two parties formally enter a seat sharing agreement. Congress may face rebellion from its local leaders in Udupi and Chikkamagaluru districts if it allows JD(S) to field candidate in the constituency, where regional party is currently in third position after BJP and Congress.

If BJP agrees to field Mr Hegde from Udupi-Chikkamagaluru constituency, both Congress and JD(S) may face a tough challenge. However, political pundits believe that BJP may think twice before finalising candidate as it has to give priority to “original” Hindutva leaders over “migrants” to avoid rebellion within the party.

New Delhi, Mar 29: Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan after his discussions with Saudi Minister of Energy, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, on global oil market developments said that Saudi Arabia has assured India of uninterrupted supply of LPG.

"Had a video conference with HRH Prince Abdulaziz, Saudi Minister of Energy and Mr Amin Nasser, President and CEO @Saudi_Aramco. We discussed about the global oil market developments and on uninterrupted LPG supplies from Saudi Arabia to India," Pradhan tweeted.
"HRH Prince Abdulaziz assured of LPG supplies in the coming days to support our domestic requirement," Pradhan added.
While there has been a slump in fuel demand owing to the nationwide lockdown, cooking gas demand has reportedly surged in the country.
The Prime Minister had on Tuesday announced a 21-day lockdown to stem the spread of COVID-19 which has left thousands dead around the world.

Amidst heightened border tensions between Indian and China, senior BJP leader and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's two year old tweet comparing his party with Communist Party of China started going viral.

The tweet, dated 26 June, 2016 reads: "Communist Party of China & BJP have done numerous works in social field. This way, there is tremendous similarities between the two parties." (sic)

Twitterati dug up this tweet after over 20 Indian Army personnel, including a colonel, were killed in a clash with Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley in eastern Ladakh earlier this week.

Soon after Chouhan's tweet went viral, netizens took to the micro-blogging site and slammed BJP. One user said, "Interesting comment by Hindutva ITSELF to recognise how similar they are with China. No doubt. Both believe in Dragon Throne .... and brutal absolute control." Another user said, "No wonder the BJP & China both agree that PLA never crossed into Indian territory."

Patna, Mar 31: In arguably the first of its kind incident in the country, a young man in Bihar was beaten to death precisely because he had informed the district control room about two corona suspects who had arrived here in the State from Mumbai.

The incident took place in Sitamarhi in North Bihar where a 20-year-old youth Bablu Kumar was allegedly killed by Sudhir Mahto and Munna Mahto.

The two Mahtos had arrived from Mumbai to Sitamarhi around ten days back. Bablu, in the meantime, informed the district control room about the arrival of two persons from a State where a large number of people were afflicted with coronavirus.

A team of doctors on March 24 reached Runnisaidpur in Sitamarhi to examine the two suspects. Three days later, these two persons from Maharashtra tested negative.

But the incident (of informing control room and subsequent medial test) created such enmity between the family of Mahtos and Babloo that on Sunday when they found the 20-year-old young man sitting alone, they thrashed him so mercilessly that he died on the spot.

Shocked and grief-struck, Babloo’s father Vinod Singh eventually lodged an FIR with the police and named Sudhir Mahto, Munna Mahto, and their family members as accused in the killing of his son.

The police on Monday raided the place and arrested the Mahtos.

But then, this is not an isolated case of violence. In another incident that took place in Bihar’s Jehanabad district, a BDO Ajay Kumar and a police officer Chandrashekhar Kumar were attacked by fellow villagers when the officials reached there to quarantine those migrants who had reached there from Delhi. So angry were the villagers with the officials’ move to isolate the migrants that they smashed the window-panes of the government vehicles and attacked the officials.

The officials had to beat a hasty retreat. But they soon returned with additional police team which used brutal force and took local leaders into custody before restoring normalcy in the area.
