Can't reach the stardom that dad achieved: Abhishek Bachchan

December 17, 2013

Abhishek_BachchanMumbai, Dec 17: over 180 films in a career spanning more than four decades, megastar Amitabh Bachchan continues to hold sway over millions of his fans on the big and small screen. Even at this ripe age, the 71-year-old is one of the busiest actors in Bollywood thanks to his knack of adapting and reinventing himself to the demands of showbiz.

"One must stay in their limits only. I think one must aim for Mars... Forget about reaching the Sun. It is not going to happen. It is the same with him. He is the biggest, was, is and is ever going to be. So don`t aspire to be that because it is not going to happen. Aspire to be your own man and achieve your own goals," Abhishek told PTI in an interview here.

Abhishek may not be bracketed in the category of superstars in Bollywood but his performance in films like `Yuva`, `Bunty Aur Babli`, `Guru` and others were highly appreciated.

He believes in doing good work and insists that megastars even like his father cannot guarantee a hit if the story is not good enough.

"If the film is not good and even if you have Mr Amitabh Bachchan in it then also it will not work. I would love to say that (all films that dad does will be hits).. It makes a great copy. But the fact is, if the film is not good, the story is not good then nobody can save your film. So it is important to choose films properly," he added.

Recently, the latest season of Big B`s popular game show `Kaun Banega Crorepati` got over and he will be making his debut for a fiction show on TV. On film front he has R Balki`s next film besides lot of other offers.

The veteran is doing a great job and the 37-year-old too hopes to continue working like his father at this age.

"I hope and pray that I am doing the same thing as he is. I can`t see my life without getting the opportunity to work and do films. I hope I am blessed enough that even at his age I get to be making films every day," he added.

Abhishek and Big B have worked together in quite a few films and they would love to team up again provided they get an interesting offer. The last film that the father-on duo did together was `Paa`.

"After `Paa` we haven`t got any film that has excited both of us. We have done memorable films like `Bunty Aur Babli`, `Sarkar`, `Sarkar Raaj`, `Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna` and `Paa`. So you need to do something that is going to be bigger and better than our previous films. We won`t do any film together just like that," he added.

All the films that they have done together have been hits, and Abhishek calls his father, his lucky co-star.

Besides Amitabh, there are actors like Aamir, Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan who are superstars and have attained immense success. And Abhishek loves their enthusiasm and honesty towards their work.

"There is one common thing in superstars -- enthusiasm and humility towards their work. Off sets they are big stars for others and they carry themselves the way they want to. When they are working they are not stars. On sets they are like making the best film and giving their best," he said.

"When you work with senior actors you maintain that respect but when you see them working like a normal actor, you look up to them. They are concerned about getting the film right and that is very refreshing. It is very heartening to see all this," he added.

Mumbai, Jun 9: Actor Sonu Sood, who has been arranging transport for migrant workers stranded in Mumbai and has faced criticism from the Shiv Sena for "enacting a political script written by BJP", was stopped outside the Bandra Terminus in Mumbai by police from meeting labourers.

A Mumbai Police official said the actor was stopped by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) when he reached the station on Monday night to meet some labourers, and added that they have not received any complaint so far in this connection.

The migrant labourers were supposed to take the Shramik Special train from Bandra Terminus to Uttar Pradesh.

Mumbai's Nirmal Nagar police station's senior inspector Shashikant Bhandare told news agency PTI that "The actor was stopped by the RPF, not by us. He wanted to meet labourers who were going to their native place. We have not received any complaint regarding this till now."

Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Sunday wondered whether the BJP propped up Sonu Sood to "offer help" to migrant workers from north India stranded in Maharashtra amidst the lockdown, with the political motive to show the Uddhav Thackeray government in poor light.

In his weekly column 'Rokhthok' in Shiv Sena mouthpiece 'Saamana', Sanjay Raut questioned the sudden rise of "Mahatma" Sood on the social scene of Maharashtra during the lockdown.

Mr Raut also referred to an alleged "sting operation" against Sonu Sood ahead of the 2019 general elections, saying he had agreed to promote the BJP-led government at various platforms through his official social media accounts.

However, later that day Chief Minister and Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray lauded Sonu Sood's initiative to arrange buses for stranded migrant workers.

The actor met Uddhav Thackeray at the latter's residence 'Matoshree' in suburban Bandra on Sunday night.

On Monday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh backed Sonu Sood for his work for stranded migrant workers, and questioned the Maharashtra government's criticism of the actor.

Mumbai, Jul 25: Movie theatres have been shuttered for months due to the coronavirus pandemic in the country, but the Information and Broadcasting Ministry has now recommended that the Union Home Ministry allow cinema halls to reopen in August.

I&B Secretary Amit Khare indicated this at a close-door industry interaction with the CII Media Committee on Friday. He said Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla at the Home Ministry would take the final call.

Khare said that he has recommended that cinema halls may be allowed to reopen all over India as early as August 1, or at the latest, around August 31.

The formula suggested is that alternate seats in the first row and then the next row be kept vacant, and proceeding in this fashion throughout.

Khare said that his ministry's recommendation takes into consideration the two metre social distancing norm, but tweaks it gently to two yards instead. The Home Ministry, however, still has to revert on the recommendation.

Cinema owners, present in the interaction, however, pushed back and said this formula is unwise and merely running films at 25% auditorium capacity is worse than keeping the cinemas shut.

The attendees at the meet included media CEOs like N.P. Singh of Sony, Sam Balsara (Madison), Megha Tata, (Discovery), Gaurav Gandhi (Amazon Prime), Manish Maheshwari (Twitter), S. Sivakumar (Bennett Coleman and Co Ltd), and K Madhavan, Star & Disney, and also Chairman, CII Media Committee.

The OTT platforms present, including Gandhi of Amazon Prime, did not push back. Some Bollywood producers, notably those of Amitabh Bachchan's Gulabo Sitabo, have posted their movies on OTT, rather than live out the lockdown uncertainty.
