CBI may take over investigation of Karnataka IAS officer's suspicious death

Bengaluru, Jun 10: CBI may soon take over the investigation of the mysterious death of Karnataka cadre IAS officer Anurag Tiwari, who was found dead near a guest house in the Capital of Uttar Pradesh last month.

anurag According to the sources, a notification to this effect may be issued shortly. ''CBI is likely to take over the investigation very soon,'' said a police official here.

Sources said that the central investigating agency appears to have made up its mind to take over the investigation after reports that the family of the officer were contemplating to move the court seeking a direction to the CBI to start the probe.

UP government has formed a special investigation team (SIT) to investigate the death. The SIT had visited Bangalore and met the officials besides visiting Tiwari's house there. It had apprehended that Tiwari might have died of ''drug overdose''.

The family members of Tiwari had said that the SIT was not investigating the case seriously.

Tiwari, who was commissioner, food, civil supplies and consumer affairs department in Karnataka, was found dead here a few days back. His body was found lying on the side of the road a few metres away from the Guest House.

Tiwari's postmortem report was inconclusive and the doctors preserved his viscera and heart for further forensic examination to ascertain the cause of death. The death of the IAS officer also triggered a political storm in UP with BJP and Congress getting engaged in a sharp exchange of words.

Bengaluru doctor turns covid-19 positive; 6 staff in Kerala quarantined

Kozhikode, May 21: Six employees of a private clinic here and a taxi driver have been put on mandatory 14 days quarantine as a lady gynaecologist running the dispensary tested positive for COVID-19 in Bengaluru.

District Medical Officer Dr V Jayashree said the gynaecologist had returned to Karnataka a fortnight ago and tested positive while she was on quarantine there. Six staff members of the clinic at nearby Thamarassery and the taxi driver who dropped her inBengaluruon May 5 have been asked to go on quarantine, she said.

Patients had visited the clinic, belonging to the gynaecologist and her doctor husband, till April-end. Sources said the district administration is trying to figure out thecontacts of the gynaecologist, including pregnant women, for being quarantined.

Airport bomb: Home minister refuses to call Aditya Rao a terrorist, accuses Opposition of appeasing minorities

Bengaluru, Jan 22: Karnataka home minister Basavaraj Bommai today refused to respond when a journalist asked him why Aditya Rao, who was arrested on charge of planting bomb at Mangaluru International Airport, can’t be called a terrorist.

Responding to another query of another journalist on the sidelines of a private program, here, Mr Bommai said all airports in the state would soon have bomb disposal squads.

"After the Mangaluru airport bomb incident, a thought has been given to establishing bomb disposal squads near airports in the state. Hubballi and Kalburgi airports too will have them," he said.

He said, Aditya Rao resident of Udupi who has been in a frustrated state for not getting employment and earlier too arrested for hoax calls surrendered at the DGP office in Bengaluru on Wednesday. The Mangaluru police will take him into custody for investigations, he added.

Despite the suspect surrendering to the police, investigations into the case will continue, he said.

He further added, 'Irrespective of the organisations the accused belongs to, he will be punished.”

Explosives used in the Mangaluru airport bomb have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for analysis and investigation. National Security Guards too were collecting details, he stated.

He then went on to slam Opposition parties over Mangaluru Airport bomb incident. “State police, on getting information about the suspected bag, had acted swiftly and diffused it. The opposition has resorted to politics and using the incident to appease minorities,” he said.

He also termed that the statements made by the opposition would instigate anti-national elements.

Yenepoya Hospital becomes first private hospital in DK to get nod for COVID-19 tests

Mangaluru, May 10: The Yenepoya Medical College Hospital at Deralakatte here has become the first private hospital in Dakshina Kannada district to get coronavirus (COVID-19) testing approval.

The laboratory at the hospital has received the nod from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) to conduct tests for COVID-19, a release here said.

Dakshina Kannada will now have two centres for coronavirus tests, the first one being the district Wenlock hospital, the designated hospital for Covid-19.

ICMR has approved 33 testing centres in the state of which 21 are government hospitals and 12 are private hospitals.
