Athani, Feb 24: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah launched a verbal onslaught against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa during his address at the Janaashirvad Yatra rally in Athani on Saturday.

"Narendra Modi is a great facilitator of corruption. The prime minister accuses the Congress government in Karnataka 10% government while his government allowed Nirav Modi to loot a staggering Rs 11,000 crore. He (Nirav) could not have siphoned off such astronomical sums without the help of his namesake (Narendra Modi). The Union government let the frauds Lalith Modi, Nirav Modi and Vijay Mallya escape from the country," Siddaramaiah alleged.

Siddaramaiah said Modi is misleading the people with bundle of lies. "Ahead of 2014 Lok Sabha elections, you (modi) promised to deposit Rs 15 lakh in the bank account of the citizens. You didn't give even Rs 15. Where is your Achche Din? You write off corporate loans but not willing to waive farm loans. Your's is 90% commission government," he said.

"How can you seek votes, keeping the 'jailbirds' Amit Shah and B S Yeddyurappa in the forefront, he wondered.

Taking a dig at the local MLA Lakshman Savadi, the chief minister said, "You know why the local MLA was made to resign. Do you still want to elect him, he questioned the crowd. Lakshman Savadi was accused of watching porn during an Assembly session.

Siddaramaiah called Jarkiholi brothers - Sathish and Ramesh, and Prakash Hukkeri to put up an united front and turn Belagavi district into a Congress bastion.

He said that the Centre did not give a single rupee for the Mahamastakabhisheka. It was the state government which released huge grants for the duodecennial event.

Earlier, All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Rahul Gandhi arrived at Sambra airport here at 12.10 pm on Saturday for his second-leg of Janaashirvada Yatre.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Opposition leader in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge received the AICC president at the airport.

Rahul Gandhi, along with Siddaramaiah and Kharge flew to Athani in a helicopter.

Kochi/Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 7: The Managing Director of Muthoot Finance company was injured after miscreants allegedly pelted his car with stones here on Tuesday morning following which one person was reportedly taken into custody.

George Alexander Muthoot, who suffered head injury has been admitted to a private hospital, police said.

A section of employees have been agitating against the Muthoot management over dismissal of 160 staff from the company's 43 branches across the state in December.

The protest is being held under the aegis of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU).

While the Muthoot management alleged that "CITU goons" were behind the attack that occurred at around 9 am in front of IG office here, the union leaders have maintained that they have no role in the incident.

Reacting to the incident, Labour Minister T P Ramakrishnan said he does not think any of the Muthoot employees were behind the attack.

"The employees were protesting peacefully. Violence is not part of their protest. Even now, in today's incident, I don't think any of the Muthoot employees attacked the MD.

However, it was the management of the company which had always provoked them by not implementing the decisions taken at conciliatory meetings," the Minister said.

If the management was prepared to change its stance, all the issues would be resolved, he said.

CITU leader Ananthavattom Anandan told reporters that they do not believe in such type of violent mode of agitation.

An official of the Confederation of Indian Industries Kerala chapter condemned the incident, saying "it is a matter of great concern".

Well known businessman and founder chairman and CEO of V-Guard Industries, Kochouseph Chittilappilly condemned the attack and said it was unfortunate that such incidents still continue in the state.

“Earlier also such incidents have taken palace. It's highly condemnable. The union leaders will now claim that the incident took place without their knowledge. But without the backing of union, such incidents will never happen,” he said.

Kerala-headquartered Muthoot Finance is the largest gold financing company in India.

Bengaluru, Feb 20: Leaving the organisers of an event to protest against the CAA, NRC and NRP here red-faced, a young woman on Thursday reportedly raised "Pakistan Zindabad" slogan in the presence of AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, who denounced her action and asserted "we are for India".

The woman, identified as Amulya, allegedly asked people to shout with her "Pakistan Zindabad" after the organisers of the event under the banner of "Save Constitution" invited her to address the gathering soon after Owaisi came on the stage.

Soon Owaisi rushed to snatch the mike from her hands and was joined by others who tried to remove her from the state.

But the woman was adamant and raised the slogan again repeatedly. Later, the police stepped in and removed her from the dais.

Owaisi then addressed the gathering, saying he did not agree with the woman.

"Neither me nor my party has any link with her. We denounce her. The organisers should not have invited her here. If I knew this, I would not have come here. We are for India and we no way support our enemy nation Pakistan. Our entire drive is to save India," the AIMIM MP said.

JD(S) corporator Imran Pasha claimed she was planted by some rival group to disrupt the event.

The woman, he said, was not in the list of speakers and demanded that the police investigate the matter seriously.

Sources say Amulya hails from Chikkamagaluru and her parents have always been in the forefront of taking on government and its policies for well over a decade.

As per local TV reports, the student was taken to Upparpet police station, but later shifted to an undisclosed destination for more questioning.

Bengaluru, Jul 5: A 50-year-old woman with breathing difficulties died on Saturday after a shortage of beds forced 12 hospitals to refuse admission.

Her husband Babu said the family had approached 12 hospitals in three days, including Victoria Hospital and other private facilities, who all slammed their doors on them, citing a shortage of beds. The woman died on Saturday, a few minutes into her admission at KC General Hospital.

Second death

A 35-year-old man, Manjunath, also died on Saturday after enduring fever for three days and being refused admission at several hospitals due to a shortage of beds.

As his condition worsened, his wife admitted him to a private hospital on Saturday after hours of ordeal. But the man died less than 15 minutes after getting admitted. Hospital authorities took swab samples from the deceased and said the body would be handed over after the test results.

BBMP personnel also failed to shift the body of a Covid-19 patient in Kalasipalya almost a day after the death.

Despite civic workers disinfecting the place, the neighbours were in a state of panic after the body was kept at home.
