Mangaluru, Feb 14: Jignesh Mevani, a prominent social activist from Gujarat, on Tuesday announced the setting up of Samvidhan Suraksha Samiti (SSS)?to counter the influence of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangha (RSS)?in the country.

Mevani, an advocate by profession, was addressing the cadres of the Campus Front of India (CFI) during its students vigil conference organised at Town Hall in the city.

The conference titled ‘Mothers Cry for Justice’ aimed at ensuring justice for Radhika Vemula, mother of Rohit Vemula, and Nafeesath, mother of Najeeb Ahmed. Vemula, a research scholar at the Central University of Hyderabad (CUH) committed suicide allegedly due to some issues with the university authorities, a year ago. Najeeb Ahmed, a student of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU),?New?Delhi, went missing mysteriously from the campus on October last.

The activist also announced that it was for the first time that he was disclosing before the media about the Samiti that will have its branches in every state and district in the country. Wherever the RSS?has a branch, the SSS will set up a branch, said?Mevani, with the sole intention of checking the recurrence of Rohit Vemula and Najeeb Ahmed-like incidents henceforth.?

Mevani launched a tirade against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and dared the latter to bring back Najeeb and also Vemula, as he often called himself as a man with ‘Chappan Inch Ka Seena’ (man with 56-inch chest).

Mincing no words, Mevani who called the RSS and other right wing organisations as emerging threats to the internal security of the country, especially after Modi became the prime minister, reminded the gathering that ‘Note Bandhi’ (demonetisation of notes), ‘Manuvad’ (proposition of religion) and the Gujarat model are three dangerous developments in the country.

Mevani termed the Gujarat model as nothing but a combination of fascism and communalism that claimed the lives of hundreds of innocent Muslims in the Godhra pogrom.

Prof P?Koya, national general secretary of the National Confederation of Human Rights Organisations (NCHRO) from Kerala, appealed to the gathering to remove the wet blanket of fear that has enveloped the country.

Koya said, such is the fret among the people that they have accepted demonetisation of currency notes without any protest. The judiciary and media have turned mute without mustering courage to raise the voice fearing loss of benefits in the future.

He complimented the judiciary in the United States of America (US)?where a judge was pugnacious in opposing the ban on immigrants from seven Islamic nations imposed by new US?President?Donald Trump.

National president of CFI?Shuhaid P?V?gave a clarion call to weed out fascism that is the enemy of not just the society but all individuals.

Shuhaid, who claimed that CFI?was the first to call the suicide of Vemula as ‘institutional murder’, wanted the gathering to consider the issue of demonetisation, national education policy and also attempts to scuttle students movement as the issue of every Indian.

Former chairman of Karnataka State Backward Classes Commission C S Dwarakanath, national general secretary of CFI T?Abdul Nasar, Rohit Vemula’s friend Sunganna Velpula, writer Yogesh Master and general secretary of national women’s front Lubna Minaaz were also present.

No RSS member will join this group. This is just to break Muslim unity. No Muslim should join any group lead by non Muslim until and unless governments ban RSS and rss offshoot groups completely. We have been suffering from same tactics since last 70 years.

Very nice to see Campus Front Student organization united and loud their vigil stand against injustice happening in College campus for Parents of Students who lost their children be it Rohit Vemula or Najeeb.

Political forces utilizing Communal propaganda through ABVP in college campus and making problem in religious matter. We need to throw out ABVP \Manu Smriti\" and make strong foundation in B R Ambedkar's constitution through CFI"

Bengaluru, Jan 9: Some BJP workers created a ruckus on Wednesday at a college here while seeking support for the amended Citizenship Act by raising slogans like 'Go back to Pakistan' outside the campus on Wednesday, as girl students opposed a pro-CAA banner on the wall of their institution.

A video of the incident went viral on social media.

A group of BJP workers, supporters of local party leader M M Govindaraj, had put up a poster "India Supports CAA" on the wall of Jyothi Nivas College near Koramangala.

This was opposed by girl students, who said they would not allow any such poster to be put up on the college property.

The BJP workers then tried to shout down the students.

"You are not concerned about citizenship, you are concerned about yourself. You should be concerned about India first. You are not an Indian then," a BJP worker is heard screaming at the girls in the video.

They also questioned the students if they had valid reasons to oppose the Citizenship Amendment Act and sought to know whether they wanted an argument or a debate.

The BJP workers purportedly told the girls that they were only the students of the college and not the owner.

"What's your problem madam with the CAA? Are you the owner of the college?" they asked.

Amid the heated argument, the BJP workers resorted to sloganeering like 'We want CAA' and "Go back to Pakistan', as seen in another video shot by the students.

BTM Layout Congress MLA Ramalinga Reddy visited the college on Thursday after learning about the incident and spoke to its management.

Later, he told reporters that the campus should not be allowed for any political activities.

"Any signature campaign whether in favor or against it (CAA) should be done outside the campus," Reddy said.

He cautioned the pro-CAA protesters he will not let any violent incidents like the one at Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi happen at the city college.

Reddy's daughter Sowmya Reddy, who is the Jayanagar MLA, tweeted, "A few videos & photos of outside #JyotiNivascollege are being circulated on social media."

"MLA Ramalinga Reddy & I have spoken to cops and the Prinicipal about this incident. Spoke to DCP South East Bengaluru and she said that Koramangala cops went there immediately & they are picketing even now," she added.

In a hard-hitting letter to the Chief Minister, a copy of which was released to the media, the Congress leader had urged to rescind the decision from amending to the Karnataka Land Reforms Act and also Agriculture Produces Marketing Committee Act.

Asserting that the state government's move was only intending to help to the land grabbers, Siddaramaiah, also the former chief minister, said easing of restrictions to buy land to the tune of over 216 acres per individual would sound a death knell to the farm sector.
