CFTRI mulls a dedicated plant to prepare food during natural disasters

Mysuru, May 19: Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), a premier CSIR lab in proposes to establish a dedicated plant in its premises to prepare foods to be supplied during natural disasters.

It has proposed to develop certain foods with a shelf life of at least six months.

The Institute was said to have broached the idea with the National Disaster Management Authority, which functions under the Ministry of Home Affairs and has proposed to establish the plant if it gets special funding from the government.

Udupi, May 4: Udupi Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesha said that mechanised boat fishing will be permitted in Udupi district in another two days.

He further said that the decision was taken after the district was declared as a Green Zone as no fresh cases of COVID-19 were reported from the district in the past several days.

The Deputy Commissioner told the media here that fishing will be permitted but social distancing has to be practised and only 30 boats will be permitted in a day.

Bengaluru, Aug 3: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa and his daughter have been admitted to the Manipal Hospital in Bengaluru for observation after testing positive for COVID-19. The Chief Minister is in clinically stable condition.

"Karnataka Chief Minister has been admitted to the hospital for observation. He is doing well, is clinically stable and will be monitored closely by our team," Manipal Hospital said on Monday.
"His daughter has tested positive for COVID-19. She has been admitted to the hospital," added the hospital in another statement.

Yediyurappa had on Sunday tweeted that he had tested positive for COVID-19. The Chief Minister, 77, said he is fine and is being hospitalised as a precaution on the recommendation of doctors.

"I have tested positive for coronavirus. Whilst I am fine, I am being hospitalised as a precaution on the recommendation of doctors. I request those who have come in contact with me recently to be observant and exercise self-quarantine," Yediyurappa wrote.

Udupi, Jan 11: A case has been registered against Pune Billava president on the charges of issuing life threats to former Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake and Dinesh Amin Mattu at the Udupi Town Police station, police sources said on Saturday.

Former Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake along with like-minded Billawa organisations and the Udupi Muslim Federation jointly scheduled an inter-religious Billawa – Muslims Harmony meet on January 11, at the Town Hall.

Journalist Dinesh Amin Mattu was the speaker and Vinay Kumar Sorake was to preside over the programme.
