Change has come… I am satisfied: PM Modi

May 29, 2016

New Delhi, May 29: Celebrating second anniversary of his government, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said a "change" has come in the last two years through good governance and vowed to root out corruption and make life easier for the people who have been "looted" for years.

modi2Without naming Congress, he accused the Opposition party of pursuing the agenda of obstructionism and expressed confidence that people can see through it and find truth.

Recalling the scams and scandals during the UPA governments including in coal block allocation, the Prime Minister said checking the menace of corruption is the focus of his government and people can see it when compared with that of previous dispensations.

"As long as we do not remember the work done during the days of the previous government, we will not be able to realize that what a big task has been accomplished," he said.

"I am standing before people of the country with satisfaction. We have been able to to get the trust and enthusiasm of people despite a very minute examination of our work. The trust of people is growing day by day. This also increases our confidence.

"I cannot say this about those for whom opposing us is necessary for political reasons. That is also natural. But I want to say one thing. On one hand there is the agenda of development (vikaswaad) and on the other hand is the agenda of obstructionsism (virodhvaad)," he said.

Speaking at the the event "Ek Nayi Subah", which was held in talkathon format spread over nearly six hours with most of the ministers in attendance, the Prime Minister said that his government has not taken any decision with "malafide intention".

Modi assured people that his government was working very hard and doing everthing to live up to the faith they have reposed in him.

"I am here to assure you that we are doining everything to live up to the faith people have reposed in us. And the country has seen that no decision was taken with any malafide intention, no effort was spared in working hard and we have dedicated ourselves to people's cause by keeping their and national interest paramount.

"It is true that those who have pocketed money will face difficulties and feel the pinch. Who have pocketed it and when have they pocketed it is not my subject but it is the money belonging to the poor and will not be allowed to go to others," he said.

Giving figures, the Prime Minister said about Rs 36,000 crore has been saved annually by plugging leakages in various programmes and said those who were benefitting from corruption are the ones who are feeling "hurt".

"Some people tell me that I do so much work and yet face so much opposition and abuse. They advise to engage with media more and rectify communciation strategy. How do I convince them that those who were beneficiaries of the 36,000 crore will abuse me when I have stopped this loot of public money," the Prime Minister said.

Modi said that the biggest change has been infusing confidence in people and working with committment to fulfil their expectations.

Rejecting criticism by Congress, which has said that Modi government has done nothing in the last two years, the Prime Minister said the country has seen that his dispensation has spared no effort in working hard and totally dedicated itself to work for the nation and common masses.

"People are capable to find out the truth by comparing this agenda of development and the agenda of obstructionism. While every step taken by the government should be evaluated minutely, my concern is that nothing should be done which throws the country in an abyss of despair," he said.

Noting that sometimes he comes across criticism, which has no basis, Modi said that the evaluation of his government has to be done in the context of the functioning of the previous governments.

Claiming to have brought a transparent auction system for coal blocks allocation, he reminded that the previous government had got "defamed" due to corruption in this sector, which was widely reported by the media then.

The Prime Minister said that the importance of his government's efforts on this can be understood if it is examined why such a massive corruption happened earlier on this issue.

"Corruption is hollowing out our country hollow like termites. If there is one thing, which can shatter our dreams for developing the nation, it is this moth of corruption and we are committed to root it out," he said.

Detailing the government's achievement in plugging leakages, the Prime Minister said that a sum of Rs 15,000 crore was saved by weeding out fake beneficiaries of LPG subsidies.

Modi said his government had also detected over 1.62 crore fake ration cards and listed some measures taken in other BJP-ruled states in this direction.

"It is only a beginning. It is a new dawn," he said, asserting that his government will continue with such measures in next three years of its term."

Noting that 1.13 crore people have given up subsidy on LPG on his call, he said it was remarkable as issues like whether to give nine or 12 subsidised cylinders per year had dominated the political discourse.

Modi said had he announced a power plant with an investment of 1 lakh crore, then it would be hailed as big news and some people would have wondered where the money will come from but the fact that his government is going to save similar amount of money with supply to LED bulbs to 500 cities, thereby saving 20 thousand megawat of power does not make news.

Bengaluru, Apr 9: The Karnataka government is currently engaged in discussions with experts, specialists and other stakeholders to decide on its lockdown exit strategy and would take a final view by April 13, a key Minister said on Thursday.

"Day after tomorrow we have a VC (videoconference) with the Prime Minister," Medical Education Minister Sudhakar K, who is in-charge of all matters related to COVID-19, noted when asked about the States strategy.

He said a task force of specialist doctors on Wednesday submitted its report to the government, giving its recommendations.

"We are meeting lot of stakeholders of the society taking their views," the Minister said, adding, the Cabinet would also hold discussions.

"Finally, day after tomorrow, after discussing with the Prime Minister during the VC, the government will take a view on this by April 13 or so. As of now, we have not taken any view on it. We are studying all the reports," Sudhakar told PTI.

The Minister observed that the COVID-19 cases were slowly spiking in India but not multiplying the way they have in some other countries like Italy, Spain and the United States as the government had declared 21-day national lockdown early and taken other strict measures. "Let's see for one week and see."

"We need to fight this out collectively and by strictly following the quarantine methods and social distancing," Sudhakar stressed.

The Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa had on Wednesday said his government was in favour of lifting lock-down in districts which remained free from COVID-19 after April 14 subject to approval from the Centre.

"If the Prime Minister suggests to States to take decision (on lock-down) based on the situation in their respective States, my position is to take a call (on roll- back) in districts free from COVID-19," he had said.

"This is to allow people to go about their business and move about within the district and not from one district to another, after April 14, after taking the approval of the Prime Minister."

According to State officials, as many as 12 districts continue to remain free from COVID-19.

The task force has recommended continuation of lockdown at "hot spots" beyond April 14.

It has suggested that schools and colleges be shut till May 31, while non-air-conditioned shops can be opened.

Also, IT/BT companies, government offices providing essential services and factories can function with 50 per cent staff, the task force said in its recommendations for 15-day period after April 14.

Bengaluru, Mar 22: Monday's only pending II PU exam (English) and SSLC exams scheduled to start on March 27 have been postponed due to Covid-19 concerns. The new dates will be announced in April first week.

The decision was taken after a meeting with chief minister BS Yediyurappa on Sunday morning, said state primary and secondary education minister S Suresh Kumar.

Around 8.25 lakh students are to appear for the Class 10 exam.

"I appeal to SSLC students not to get frustrated. I know you're fully prepared, fully geared up. But this is a peculiar situation which calls for hard decisions. The new timetable will be published very soon. Students should treat is as an extended study leave. Please revise more. Do not treat this as a relaxation time. You'll have plenty of time to relax after the exams," he said.

University of Oxford researchers have claimed that a cheap and widely available drug called dexamethasone can help save the lives of patients who are seriously ill with coronavirus.

Scientists working on the Recovery Trial found the drug could help patients on ventilators and oxygen, but had no effect on those who did not need help breathing.

“Based on these results, one death would be prevented by treatment of around eight ventilated patients or around 25 patients requiring oxygen alone,” researchers said in a statement.

Matt Hancock, the health secretary, tweeted: “This global first exemplifies the power of science.”

“I’m absolutely delighted that today we can announce the first successful clinical trial for a treatment for Covid-19,” Mr Hancock said.

Recovery Trial experts said a randomised group of 2,104 patients was given 6mg of dexamethasone per day for 10 days, while another group of 4,321 were given normal treatment.

Dexamethasone reduced deaths by one-fifth in patients on oxygen feeds and by one-third in those who needed a ventilator to breathe, preliminary results showed.

Mr Hancock added: “This is a huge step forward and it’s because we’ve backed the science.”

Martin Landray, professor of medicine and epidemiology at the Nuffield Department of Population Health, University of Oxford, and one of the trial’s chief investigators, said in a statement: “These preliminary results from the Recovery Trial are very clear – dexamethasone reduces the risk of death among patients with severe respiratory complications.

“Covid-19 is a global disease – it is fantastic that the first treatment demonstrated to reduce mortality is one that is instantly available and affordable worldwide.”

Covid-19  has  taken  into  its  grip   the  entire  world  during  first  half  of  the  year  2020  ,  infecting   lacs  and  killing  also  lacs  of   its  patients.  In  the  absence  of  an  effective  drug  or  vaccine  ,  people  had  no  choice  other  than   to   look   up   to  the  heavens  or   scientists  to  come  with  some  cure.  And  the  drug  described  here  is  the  first  one  to  respond  to  the  prayer   of  the  global  community  ,  it  seems.     As  regards  a  vaccine  ,   only  few  are  claiming  that  it  can  come  by  the  end  of  the  present  year  2020.  Rather   ,  some  are  of  the  view  that  it  may  take  a  larger  part  of  the  year  2021  and   could   even  go    to  mid-2022.   Whatever  that  scenario  about  prospect  of  arrival  of  vaccine  to  treat  Covid-19  may  be   ,  the  news  that  was  broken   on  16  June  2020   by   the  Oxford  University   scientists   in  relation  to   drug  dexamethasone   would  have  sent  a  wave  of   strength  and  hope   among   people  world-wide.  And  this  Vedic  astrology  writer  was  spirited  for  another  reason  as   well   -  a  prediction  of   when  some  relief   by  way  of  drug  to  fight  Covid-19   may  appear  ,   having  come  accurate  in   the   claim  announced  by  Oxford  University   on  16 June  2020.  This  writer  had  ,   based   on  interpretation  and  application   of  Vedic  astrology  ,   contributed  in  early  April  ,  2020   an  opinion  piece     - “  Some  searchlight  on  way  out  of  Covid-19  presently  tormenting  mankind” -   to  a  number  of   newspapers.  It  was  also  contributed  on  11  April  ,  2020   using  the  ‘ comments’   column  of  article  -‘ Heard  Charles  took   Ayurveda  treatment-based  Ayush  drugs  for   Covid-19’  -   at   theprint.in/india/looking-at-evidence-based-ayush-medicines-to-treat-covid-19-minister-shripad-naik/393407/.   The  text  in  the  opinion  piece  related  to  the  claim  of  success  announced  by  Oxford  University  scientists  on  16 June  ,  2020  ,  reads  like  this  :-
