Check Hindu version of ISIS: Mehbooba Mufti

New Delhi, Dec 5: PDP President Mehbooba Mufti today demanded that "fringe elements" acting in the name of Hinduism should be checked, drawing comparison with elements of ISIS who misuse Islam.

mm"In our country tolerance is the strength of the country and if we don't stop this so-called fringe elements...What is happening in Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq... because those are also fringe elements who are misusing the name of Islam.

"So in our country there are fringe elements who are misusing the name of Hinduism and they also compare it with nationalism which is worse," she said while speaking at the HT Leadership summit here.

Mehbooba, whose party PDP heads a coalition government with BJP in Jammu and Kashmir, said Bihar elections had done a "great job" to the "fringe elements" who misused the name Hinduism comparing it with "nationalism".

The daughter of state Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed was asked a question how does her party justify when noises including by some Union Ministers of "go to Pakistan".

She said "the mentality is the same..it is the thought process that counts." She referred to late Pakistani Prime Minister Z A Bhutto's quote who had said that India is thriving because of the chaos and noise of democracy.

"...When people are trying to fight a battle with rising prices, don't get onions, and suddenly some people start dictating as to which meat should one consume? This is not done. This is not acceptable," she said.

To a question whether it was affecting the PDP-BJP alliance in the state which saw death of a young trucker being killed by such fringe elements, she said "the murderers have been booked and tough action has been taken. This is what counts. Statements can be there but at the end it's the action that counts."

As she settled down for the interaction, Mehbooba was asked a question about the possibility of her succeeding her father as Chief Minister, she replied, "I am not comfortable with this question please. I don't want to think about it. I am working for the people and will continue to do so."

Kochi, Feb 26: Kerala High Court on Wednesday imposed a ban on strikes in schools and colleges that impact the functioning of the campuses.

''The functioning of campuses should not be hampered by the strikes. The colleges are for study, not for strikes. There should not be any march or gherao on campuses. Do not incite anyone for a strike," a bench of Justice PB Suresh Kumar said in its order.

"The order applies to schools and colleges. Do not harm the rights of others. The college can be a venue for peaceful discussions or thoughts. If actions are contrary to the orders of the court, the authorities can take action. They can call the police and restore peace," the order reads.

The Kerala High Court issued the order while hearing a petition filed by 20 educational institutions against campus politics.

New Delhi, Feb 27: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Thursday attacked the government over the transfer of Delhi High Court Judge S Muralidhar, saying the Centre's attempts to "muzzle" justice and "break people's faith in an upright judiciary are deplorable".

Delhi HC Judge S Muralidhar was transferred to the Punjab and Haryana High Court, days after the Supreme Court collegium made the recommendation.

"The midnight transfer of Justice Muralidhar isn't shocking given the current dispensation, but it is certainly sad & shameful," Priyanka Gandhi tweeted. "Millions of Indians have faith in a resilient & upright judiciary, the government’s attempts to muzzle justice & break their faith are deplorable," she said.

The judge was hearing the Delhi violence case and the late evening notification came on the day when a bench headed by him expressed "anguish" over the Delhi Police's failure to register FIRs against alleged hate speeches by three BJP leaders.

New Delhi, Feb 1: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday greeted the Indian Coast Guard on its raising day, appreciating its efforts to keep the country's coasts safe.

The Coast Guard came into being in 1977.

"Greetings to the Indian Coast Guard on their foundation day. Our Coast Guard has made a mark due to their remarkable efforts to keep our coasts safe," Modi tweeted.

The prime minister said the force's "concern towards the marine ecosystem is also noteworthy".
