Chennai Super Kings demolish Delhi Daredevils

April 22, 2014

Kings_demolishAbu Dhabi, Apr 22: After their first loss against the Kings XI Punjab, Chennai Super Kings under the stewardship of the Indian skipper M S Dhoni wanted to win.

They wanted to win badly. And, Delhi Daredevils suffered as the formidable outfit batted, bowled and fielded brilliantly to massacre them by 93 runs, CSK’s biggest margin of victory in the Indian Premier League.

CSK’s batting line-up is the most ruthless among the teams in this tournament. Although Brendon McCullum lost his wicket early, everybody else in the top five chipped in. Suresh Raina, among the most reliable t20 batsmen in the Indian team, paced his knock really well to score 56 off 41 deliveries. Dwayne Smith (28) and Faf du Plessis (24) got starts, while Dhoni scored a superb 32 off 15 deliveries towards the end, an innings which will probably be best remembered for a booming straight drive against the bowling of speedster Jaidev Unadkat. Unadkat showed fantastic reflexes to get out of the ball’s way. Had he been fractionally slower, he might have been seriously injured.

CSK’s total of 177 for 7 was made possible largely due to the listless and wayward bowling of Mohammed Shami, who gave away 45 runs in his four overs. J P Duminy (0 for 26) who opened the bowling, Unadkat (3 for 32) and Jimmy Neesham (1 for 29) bowled well without being exceptional. Shahbaz Nadeem (1 for 29 in 3 overs) was expensive, and replacing him in the next match doesn’t appear to be beyond the realms of possibility.

DD’s response was a feeble one. The team was all out for 84, with only Jimmy Neesham (22) and skipper Dinesh Karthik managing to reach the 20s. CSK’s comprehensive win was helped by top class fielding, with not a single catch being spilled and Raina and du Plessis being particularly exceptional while holding on to the aerial balls that came their way. The inclusion of seamer Ben Hilfenhaus (1 for 9 in 2 overs) proved to be a worthy decision, and young Ishwar Pandey (2 for 23) who hit the deck and made the ball talk showed why he is being spoken of as a serious Indian prospect for sometime.

The solitary criticism of the CSK is why Dhoni isn’t coming up the batting order and giving himself more time before launching an assault on the bowlers. All said and done, however, the team won the match by a comprehensive margin. The facts of figures tell the story

London, Apr 8: England wicketkeeper Jos Buttler has raised more than 65,000 pound (USD 80,000) to help fight the coronavirus by auctioning off his World Cup final shirt.

Buttler's shirt, which he wore when completing the last-ball run-out that saw England beat New Zealand at Lord's last year, was sold to raise money for specialist heart and lung centres provided by the Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals in London.

Buttler, who earlier in the showpiece match had hit a fifty and batted in the Super Over, put his long-sleeve keeping jersey up for sale on eBay a week ago.

By the time the auction closed on Tuesday, the shirt had attracted 82 bids with the winner paying 65,100 pound.

Buttler, speaking on Monday, said: "It's a very special shirt but I think it takes on extra meaning with it being able to hopefully go to the emergency cause.

New Delhi Jul 30: After Pakistan cricketer Umar Akmal's ban was reduced to 18 months, Danish Kaneria criticised Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) policies and said that the 'zero tolerance policy' applies only to him.

"Zero Tolerance policy only apply on Danish Kaneria not on others, can anybody answer the reason why I get life ban not others, Are policy applies only on cast, colour, and powerful background. I am Hindu and proud of it that's my background and my dharma," Kaneria tweeted.

Earlier on Wednesday, Akmal's three-year suspension was reduced to 18 months by an independent adjudicator, former Pakistan Supreme Court judge, Faqir Mohammad Khokhar.

On April 27, the Chairman of the Disciplinary Panel, Justice (retd) Fazal-e-Miran Chauhan, had banned the wicketkeeper-batsman for three years after finding him guilty of breaching the PCB's Anti-Corruption Code in two separate incidents.

Akmal, on May 19, filed an appeal against the three-year ban imposed on him, seeking a reduction in the duration of the sanction. He will remain suspended effectively from February 2020 till August 2021.

The batsman said he might appeal again to get the ban "reduced further".

"I am thankful to the judge for listening to my lawyers properly. I will decide about the remaining sentence and try to get it reduced further. For now I am not satisfied and will consult my lawyers and family how to take this ahead," ESPNcricinfo had quoted Akmal as saying.

"There are many players before me who made mistakes and just look at what they got and what I got. So all I say right now is thank you very much," he had added.

On the other hand, Kaneria was found guilty of spot-fixing while playing for English club Essex and was banned from the sport.

Earlier this month, Pakistan's cricket governing body 'advised' Kaneria to approach England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) if he wants to play domestic cricket after the cricketer had appealed to the PCB, seeking permission to play domestic cricket.

New Delhi, Feb 9: The Indian Fed Cup team will travel to Dubai for this year's competition as the ITF has named the desert city as the new venue for the matches, to be held from March 3 to 7.

The ITF named the new venue after moving out the matches from then Chinese city of Dongguan due to Coronoavirus threat. The Asia/Oceania Group I matches were originally scheduled to be played from February 4-8.

"The event will be held in the week following the ATP Dubai tournament at the same venue, and will see six nations China P.R., Chinese Taipei, India, Indonesia, Korea Rep. and Uzbekistan - compete for a place in the Fed Cup Play-offs in April," an ITF release said.

The six teams will vie for two spots in Fed Cup Play-offs.

"Being in Dubai makes no difference. But the dates give enough time to Sania for her recovery. Doubles is an important point. Ankita is playing well. The other team members will also get some tournament to play under their belt," India's Fed Cup captain Vishal Uppal told news agency.

Sania's participation was under doubt due to a calf injury she aggravated during the Australian Open, where she pulled out of the mixed doubles before retiring mid-way into her women's doubles opening round match.

"I think we have a good chance but we will have to be at our best and fight hard for every point, every game, every set, every match," Uppal added.
