Chikkamagaluru, Jul 11: V Shruthi, a 20-year-old woman from Chikkamagaluru who slipped into a coma following a mishap during scuba diving in Hawaii, US, on June 30, died on Sunday night, her family has said.
During scuba diving in the Pacific Ocean, her oxygen pipe got accidentally detached. She became asphyxiated and eventually went into a coma. Her father, Vishwanath, a resident of Lakkavalli in Tarikere taluk, said her body had been donated to a hospital in Hawaii but her ashes would be brought to India for the last rites.
Shruthi’s mother Shakunthala and brother Karthik got passports under tatkal to travel to Hawaii on July 7. Vishwanath couldn’t accompany them as he didn’t get the passport on time.
Shruthi had married Seetharama Krishna, a native of Vijayawada, just 10 months ago. Her husband is a software engineer with Yahoo in California. The couple had been to Hawaii for vacation when the tragedy occurred.
