Vijayawada, Oct 18: A two-and-a-half-year-old boy, Rahul, was allegedly beaten to death by his mother and her boyfriend in the AP Capital region, as the child was reportedly crying and disturbing them during nights.

ChildThe child had been suffering from high fever for the last few days and was missing since Sunday. Neighbours found the decomposed body in bushes on Monday.

The mother, Rekha Nishad and Raja Rao, natives of Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh respectively, had been in live-in relationship for the last few months, the locals told the police.

Nishad of Chandrapur reportedly deserted her husband and was staying with Raja Rao, a labourer. They rented a house at Gosala.

Kid tortured

“As Rahul had fever and was crying during nights, the couple was beating him for the last few days. The locals objected to the cruelty of Nishad and Raja Rao and argued with them over the beastly act,” said Kankipadu Circle Inspector K. Sridhar Kumar.

When the cries of the child were not heard, the neighbours grilled the couple on the whereabouts of the boy on Monday. They searched their house and the surrounding areas and found the body in the bushes on Boddapadu Road.

A case has been registered against the two under Sections 302 (murder) and 201 of IPC (Causing disappearance of evidence of offence).

“We are trying to find out the details of the accused, previous history and whether they were involved in any crime earlier,” the CI said.

Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Commission for Protection of Child Rights (APCPCR) Chairperson S. Balaraju condemned the incident and expressed concern over the increasing crime against children.

“The Commission will take up the issue and order a probe. Police should take stern action against the accused,” Mr. Balaraju said.
