City buses to boost Panambur beach tourism

Mangalore, Jun 3: In a big relief for beachgoers in Mangalore, city buses will start taking them directly to Panambur beach from June 30 onwards. Currently tourists have to walk down 500 metres from the National Highway 66 to hit the sands so far.

beechAfzal Ahmed Khan, Regional Transport Officer, Mangalore, said that city buses, plying towards Surathkal, have been issued new route permits and they will now have to operate via the beach from June 30.

Informing this a meeting on tourism development, chaired by the by Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim here on Monday, Mr. Khan said that the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) had given permission for the buses plying to Katipalla, Mulki and Udupi from State Bank of India bus terminus to go via Panambur.

“Permits have been given. These buses will be given timings shortly. The operation of these buses might start by June 30,” Mr. Khan said in the meeting.

Tourism Department Assistant Director U Jithendranath displayed the works designed by three different agencies of which one brochure will be selected.

The colourful brochures comprise of basic information about the district, list of 40 tourist spots and their significance, will be distributed among the travel agencies, hotels and other stake holders.

Chairing the meeting, Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim directed the officials to upload the sample brochure and map in Mangalore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) website and invite suggestions from general public before June 10.

The brochure should be finalised and copies for distribution should be printed before June 15, he instructed.

Mangaluru, Jan 24: Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh on Friday said that a specialised task force to manage natural disasters would soon be constituted in all talukas of the Dakshina Kannada district, an official statement said here.

She further said in a meeting of the District Disaster Management Authority that during the floods last monsoon there was a shortage of boats to rescue stranded residents from flood-hit areas. Hence, more boats would be procured for the Home Guards and the Fire and Emergency Services.

She also instructed officials to make sure that schools have their own disaster management plans and also advised them to carry emergency materials kit, used during a natural disaster, in their vehicles.

Bengaluru, Apr 19:  Karnataka's Technical Education department following Union Home Ministry’s guidelines, on Sunday directed all its colleges not to use the Zoom application to conduct online classes during the ongoing lockdown period.

Considering Union Home Ministry's advisory that Zoom app is not safe, the department has taken the decision and issued a circular asking all government, aided and unaided engineering, polytechnic (Diploma) colleges to stop using the app immediately.

The department recommended the use of a free app developed by TCS: "TCS iON Digital class room" or any other App recommended by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to conduct the online classes.

Mangalore, Mar 18: The Dakshina Kannada District Home Guards felicitated social activist and Executive Director of Centre for Integrated Learning, Sachitha Nandagopal at the Home Guards district office to mark the International Women's Day recently.

She was recognised for her achievements and contributions to the society in the field of education, culture and mental health.

Sachitha Nandagopal, a former Head of Department of Journalism at Besant Women's College and Principal of CMR Post Graduate Centre for Media Studies, Bangalore, is the Co-Founder of Centre for Integrated Learning, Mangalore which is an NGO working in the field of alternative education, adding value to the present education system. As a Facilitator in Dance Movement Therapy, she has founded Anveshanam - Centre for Mindfulness and Emotional Wellbeing, an organisation dedicated to addressing mental health issues.

She was honoured by District Commandant, Dakshina Kannada Home Guards, Dr. Muralimohan Chunthar. Senior Home Guard Ramesh Bhandary, Diwakar, Mahesh and lady personnel of Home Guards were present on the occasion.
