Civil engineer from Shivamogga bags 47th rank in UPSC?exam

Shivamogga, Jun 1: There was a festive atmosphere at the residence of Dhyanachandra H M at Vinobnagar in the city on Wednesday evening as he bagged the 47th rank in UPSC examinations of 2016. Civil

He is the son of S L Haleshappa, an engineer with Karnataka Housing Board and Mamata K, a teacher at a government school in Shivamogga. Speaking to DH over the phone, Dhyanachandra said that though he was hopeful of bagging a good rank in the exam, he had not anticipated the 47th rank as it is a competition among 'intelligent people.'

“I know that I have to work with politicians in our democratic set up. I am prepared for it. I am committed to working within the framework of law.”

Dhaynachandra who is currently working as an assistant engineer with Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department in Bengaluru, said that Insight Institute based in Bengaluru helped him do well in the UPSC?exam.

He took personal guidance from Vinay, who runs the institute. His father motivated him to become an IAS officer. He had selected Kannada as an optional for the exam. He couldn't clear the preliminary exam in his first attempt. Having studied the pattern of the exam thoroughly, he came out with flying colours in his second attempt.

A gold medallist

He studied at Swamy Vivekananda School at Ravindranagar in Shivamogga and PUC at Expert PU College in Mangaluru. He had bagged a gold medal in BE Civilfrom Manipal Institute of Technology.

Mangaluru to get 15 smart CCTV cameras in sensitive places

Mangaluru, Jan 5: To keep an hawk's eye on the city, 15 prominent and crowded junctions in the city will have the most advanced CCTV cameras installed under the Smartcity project.

The junctions are-- Bejai KSRTC, Pumpwell, Vamanjoor, Padil, Mullikatte, Bejai, Bendoor, Falnir, Morgans Gate, Kulashekara-Shakthinagar Cross, Kottara Chowki, Kuntikan, Rao & Rao Circle, Padavinangady and Kavoor junctions.

According to top police officials, these junctions will receive approximately 75 cameras to check crime and aid in solving the cases of murder and robbery in the city.

A ‘smartpole’ will be installed there with each pole containing about five cameras along with a 360 degree swivelling camera.

Karnataka reports 5,536 new COVID-19 cases, 102 deaths

Bengaluru, Jul 28: As many as 5,536 new COVID-19 cases and 102 deaths were reported in Karnataka on Tuesday, according to the State Health Department.

With these new cases of coronavirus, the total number of positive cases in the state stands at 1,07,001 including 64,434 active cases, 40,504 discharges and 2,055 deaths.

India on Tuesday reported 47,704 more COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the country's count of coronavirus cases to 14,83,157, informed the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Out of the total cases, there are 4,96,988 active cases in the country while the number of patients cured/discharged and migrated stands at 9,52,744. With 654 deaths due to COVID-19 in the country reported in the last 24 hours, the death toll rises to 33,425.

No new COVID-19 case in Kalaburagi, tally 22

Kalaburagi, Apr 20: With no COVID-19 case reported here on Sunday, the total number of virus-infected people in the district stood at 22.

While three persons have succumbed to the infection in the district so far, three others have been cured and discharged.

"No COVID-19 case was reported in Kalaburagi district today. Total 22 positive cases and 3 deaths have been reported in the district till date. Three persons have been cured," said District Magistrate B. Sharat.

Karnataka's total count of coronavirus patients has surged to 390, said the State Health Department on Sunday.

"Six new cases have been confirmed for COVID-19 in the State from 5 pm on Saturday till 5 pm on Sunday. Cumulatively, 390 COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed in the state," it said.
