Class XII economics re-exam on April 25

New Delhi, Mar 31: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will conduct re-examinations for Class XII economics paper all over the country on April 25.

The re-examination, if any, for Class X mathematics paper, will not be held across the country.

"If at all re-examinations for the Class X mathematics paper has to be held, it will be done only for the National Capital Region of Delhi and Haryana in July. Re-examination for the Class X paper will not be held in the rest of the states," Human Resource Development (HRD) ministry's school education department secretary Anil Swarup told reporters in Delhi on Friday.

A final decision on whether re-examination should be held or not even for Haryana and the National Capital Region will be taken "in fifteen days" he said.

"The matter is being investigated at various levels including by the Delhi police. We will examine all the facts that come out during the investigations and take our decision accordingly," he said. The CBSE will also not conduct re-examination for the two papers for students appearing in their Class X and Class XII board examinations abroad, he also clarified. Swarup announced the board's decision in the presence of CBSE chairperson Anita Karwal as anxiety among parents and students over the issue continued across the country.

Students and parents have also been demanding re-examination for only those regions where the papers were leaked. Leaders of various political parties including Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Rajya Sabha member Chandrasekhar Reddy also echoed the demands of the students and parents.

The board's decision is primarily based on the facts that have emerged during investigations by Delhi police, a group of senior officials of the ministry and the CBSE, Swarup said.

"Some stupid fellow has played a dirty trick. A substantial number of questions of mathematics paper matched with the original paper. That's why we cancelled the examinations held for this paper (on March 28)," he said.

However, when the board consulted the states to verify the leakage of mathematics paper, most of the them said there was no such thing there.

"So we decided not to hold re-exam for mathematics paper for students across the country and limit it only to the National Capital Region of Delhi and Haryana, if at all we have to do so," Swarup clarified.

New York, Aug 3: The number of coronavirus cases confirmed all over the world has surpassed 18 million, while the global COVID-19 death toll stands at over 687,000 according to data from the Johns Hopkins University's Coronavirus Resource Center.

As of 06:00 Moscow time on Monday (03:00 GMT), there are 18,017,556 confirmed coronavirus cases in the world. The global death toll from COVID-19 stands at 687,930. The number of recovered individuals stands at 10,649,108.

The United States remains the country with the largest number of cases (4,665,932) and the highest COVID-19 death toll (154,841), according to the latest data from the Johns Hopkins University.

New Delhi, Mar 3: Delhi's Tihar Prison authorities had made all necessary preparations for the hanging of four convicts in the Nirbhaya gangrape-and-murder case which was scheduled for Tuesday, officials said Monday.

However, on Monday evening, a city court deferred the hanging till further orders.

Postponing the execution, Additional Sessions Judge Dharmender Rana said the hanging cannot be carried out pending disposal of Pawan Gupta's mercy plea before the President, observing any condemned convict must not meet his "Creator" with grievance against courts for not acting fairly on the opportunity to exhaust legal remedies.

"We had made all the necessary arrangements for the execution of the four convicts which was scheduled for Tuesday at 6 AM. Now, the execution has been postponed and we are waiting for the further order by the court," a senior jail official said.

The hanging of the four men -- Mukesh Kumar Singh (32), Vinay Kumar Sharma (26), Akshay Kumar Singh (31) and Pawan -- who are lodged in Tihar jail, was fixed for March 3 in Tihar jail on a court order.

"We had checked the ropes. Hangman was called and dummy executions were carried out," another senior jail official said.

Barring Pawan, the other three had in the previous weeks moved curative petitions and mercy pleas which were all dismissed.

The first date of execution -- January 22 -- fixed on January 7 was postponed by the court to February 1. But on January 31, the court indefinitely postponed the hanging. On February 17, the court again issued fresh date for execution of death warrants for March 3 at 6 AM.

The court in its orders observed that the four convicts cannot be hanged since a mercy plea of one or the other convict was pending.

Hyderabad, Jan 6: AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday expressed solidarity with students of Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi, following violence in the campus and said the "cruel attack" was meant to "punish"the students as they "dared to stand up".

"In solidarity with the brave students of JNU. This cruel attack is meant to 'punish' JNU students because they dared to stand up. It's so bad that even Union Ministers are tweeting helplessly. Modi Sarkar must answer why cops aresiding with goons," the Hyderabad MP tweeted.

The AIMIM has also tweeted expressing solidarity with the "students of JNU". "AIMIM stands in solidarity with the students of Jawaharlal Nehru University. Who feels threatened by the voice of students?," the party said in a tweet.

Violence broke out at the JNU on Sunday night as masked men armed with sticks and rods attacked students and teachers and damaged property on the campus, prompting the administration to call in police which conducted a flag march.

At least 28 people, including JNU Students' Union president Aishe Ghosh, were injured as chaos reigned on the campus for nearly two hours.
