CM holds video conference with DCs, CEOs on prevailing drought in Karnataka

Bengaluru, May 15: Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy today directed all District Deputy Commisioners and Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officers to accord top priority to tackle severe drought conditions prevailed in most part of the State.

In an interactive meeting, through Video Conference here on Wednesday, Chief Minister took stock of the severe scarcity conditions in over 24 districts, excluding Dharwad and Gulbarga where byelections are being held for two Assembly segments. The officers were asked to give priority to tackle the drinking water problem, shortage of fodder to live stocks, besides providing employment to the rural poor.

Chief Minister conducted the meeting following a clarification by the Election Commission which clarified that Election code will not come in the way to monitor the drought situation in the State.

Mangaluru, June 29: An elderly man, who was under quarantine at a lodge was inhumanly dragged on the floor and abandoned on the roadside by his own son. 

The shocking incident occurred in broad daylight at Deralakatte on the outskirts of the city today. 

The father and son are said to be natives of Uppala in Kasaragod district. The duo stayed in a hotel room at Deralakatte after returning from Mumbai a few days ago. 

Today the son dragged his father mercilessly on the floor and escaped after abandoning him on the road side. A CCTV camera has captured the incident. 

The jurisdictional Konaje police are trying trace the miscreant.

Mangaluru, Jun 17: A private flight chartered by UAE-based NRI hotelier Praveen Shetty has brought home around 175 people from United Arab Emirates.

This is the third flight chartered by Mr Shetty, chairman of the Fortune Group of Hotels, and president of the Karnataka Non-Resident Indian Forum, to repatriate his employees and other stranded Kannadigas.

The Air Arabia flight with 168 adult passengers and six infants on board took off from Sharjah International Airport at 9:45 pm (UAE time) on June 16 and landed at Mangaluru International Airport at 2:50 am Indian Standard Time on June 17.

Mandya, Jan 25: A woman committed suicide by jumping into Vishveshwaraiah Canal after throwing her two children into the canal near Thibbanahalli in the Taluk, police said on Saturday.

The deceased have been identified as Jyothi (33), Nisarga (7) and Pavan (4), of Hullenahalli.

According to police, the incident occurred on Friday.
