The chief minister, who was accompanied by ministers M B Patil, T B Jayachandra and D K Shivakumar, met the Union minister here and apprised her of the issue. At the meeting that lasted for more than half-an-hour, Siddaramaiah also expressed his inability to release any more water to Tamil Nadu as the available water in the Cauvery basin reservoirs in Karnataka was required for drinking in cities including Bengaluru and Mysuru.

Later, Siddaramaiah told reporters, “We have explained to the minister the current water situation in the Cauvery basin in Karnataka. We have also requested the minister to come to Karnataka's aid as the state is facing a severe water crisis due to failure of monsoon.

“As the Supreme Court has directed the Centre to set up the Cauvery Management Board in four weeks, we have also apprised the minister of the state's position on this issue.”

“Since Karnataka has already filed a petition in the apex court against setting up of the board, we have requested the minister to file an objection before the court on constituting the board,” he said, adding that the state has requested the Centre not to take any decision on this issue in haste. “She gave a patient hearing and promised to do the needful,” he said.

However, she refused to speak to the media. Separately, Siddaramaiah also met senior counsel Fali S Nariman and discussed the contents of the review petition to be filed.

Bengaluru, Apr 15: The Opposition Congress in Karnataka on Wednesday accused the BJP government, headed by Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, of showing discrimination in distribution of relief material to those affected by the lockdown, clamped to check the spread of Novel Coronavirus, by favouring constituencies represented by the ruling BJP Legislators.

Despite that, the party intends to extend full cooperation to the government during this hour of crisis without indulging in politics, it urged the administration to be “transparent”.

''We have had our (Congress) Task Force meeting today, during which we discussed several matters. There is a lot of difference between the government's talk and its deeds,'' KPCC President D K Shivakumar said.

Bengaluru, Jun 4: Leader of Opposition in Karnataka Siddaramaiah on Thursday said it was not appropriate to reopen schools for two more months, given the current rate at which coronavirus infection is spreading.

He also advised Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa and Primary and Secondary Education Minister Suresh Kumar not to take any hasty decisions in this regard.

"As corona infection is spreading in the state beyond limits, it is not appropriate to open schools for at least two more months. Chief Minister and Suresh Kumar should not make any hasty decisions," Siddaramaiah tweeted.

Stating that Suresh Kumar has placed a proposal to reopen schools in July, he said the chief minister has to take note of worried parents opposing this proposal.

"There are reports about students getting infected by coronavirus after reopening of schools in countries like Britain, France and Italy. It is appropriate to think about reopening schools on analysing the situation after two months," he said in another tweet.

The state government has sought an opinion from parents and stakeholders regarding reopening of schools in the state, with the easing of the COVID-19 lockdown norms.

Amidst worries and concerns expressed by parents across the state, the Education Minister on Wednesday had assured that the government would not take any hasty decisions regarding reopening of schools.

The Union government, in its recent guidelines, had asked state governments to hold consultation at school, college, training and coaching institutions-level with parents and other stakeholders, and based on the feedback, a decision on reopening them would be taken.

Udupi, Jan 16: The mandatory implementation of FASTag, across the country, was not enforced in the toll gates located in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts.

The toll gate personnel cited that they had not received any directions from the NHAI and hence vehicles were being allowed to ply as per the current practice.

As per government order, two gates each have to be reserved for locals, emergency entry and cash transactions. All other lanes are to be used for FASTag.
