CM will resume work today, thanks people for condolences

Bengaluru, Aug 3: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will be back to work on Wednesday, two days after his elder son Rakesh was laid to rest. He will chair a meeting of BBMP?officials to assess the damage caused by heavy rains in Bengaluru last week. The meeting will be held at his home office Krishna.'

In a media statement, the chief minister said he was finding it difficult to cope with the loss of his son and added that no parent should ever face the tragedy of losing a child. He also stated it would take a long time for him and his family to overcome the grief.

The chief minister said that he would never forget the love and concern showed by the people of the state, irrespective of caste, religion or social status, to Rakesh when he was undergoing treatment at Antwerp University Hospital in Brussels, Belgium. Rakesh succumbed to multi-organ failure on?Saturday.

Siddaramaiah recalled that when Rakesh was being treated at the hospital, a Kannadiga family living in Brussels had volunteered help, including providing home-cooked food. He said he would be grateful to Vijendra, a Bengalurean working in Brussels, and his wife.

Siddaramaiah also stated that he would forever remain indebted to the thousands who had gathered at the Exhibition Grounds in Mysuru to pay homage to Rakesh. Rakesh's body was kept at the grounds for public viewing. He also thanked a range of politicians who, cutting across party lines, shared his grief.

BBMP Commissioner N Manjunath Prasad recalled that when he laid the wreath on the body and stood at a corner on Monday, Siddaramaiah called him and enquired about the flood situation. “Just 15 minutes before Rakesh was laid to rest, Siddaramaiah asked me about the steps taken to deal with the flood. I told him about the need for long-term measures.”

Udupi, May 29: As many as 15 fresh coronavirus positive cases were reported in Udupi district today. 

11 among the new 15 covid-19 patients are males and four are females. The patients also include two children aged 6 and 7.

All of them are said to be Maharashtra returnees. 

With this, the total confirmed covid-19 cases in the district mounted to 164.

Mangaluru, July 18: A man and his son have been arrested for torturing an elderly woman in Savanalu under Belthangady police station limits in Dakshina Kannada. 

The arrest came after a video clip of the duo beating the woman went viral on social media.

According to police, the duo has been identified as the woman’s son Srinivas Shetty and her grandson Pradeep Shetty.

The accused had allegedly been torturing the 70-year-old ailing woman and the video of the same has gone viral on social media.

The police have booked a suo moto case under Indian Penal Code 323, 504 and section 24 of Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007.

Bengaluru, Jun 18: With Karnataka observing 'Mask Day' today, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa said that the state has organised a walk from Vidhana Soudha to Cubbon Park to create awareness about the importance of wearing a mask as a preventive measure against COVID-19.

"We are celebrating 'Mask Day' at all district headquarters today. We have organised a walk from Vidhana Soudha (to Cubbon Park) to create awareness about the importance of wearing a mask as a preventive measure against COVID-19," Yediyurappa told media persons here.

Earlier, the Chief Minister has said that film actors and sports personalities will take part in the event and it will be celebrated in all taluks as well.

"We will take strict action against those who are not maintaining social distancing. A fine of Rs 200 will be imposed on those for not wearing a mask in public places," he had said.

As many as 7,530 people have detected positive for COVID-19 in Karnataka, of which 94 people have succumbed to the infection till date, as per the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry.
