Coalition govt faces shaky future as rebel Cong MLA Ramesh Jarkiholi likely to quit Cong

Belagavi, Apr 23: The Disgruntled Congress MLA, Ramesh Jarkiholi, who was recently sacked from the Karnataka Cabinet, is likely to desert the Congress and join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and this may trigger serious trouble that may end up in collapse of the JD(S)-Congress alliance government in the State, sources said.

Speaking to newsmen, after casting his vote for the Lok Sabha elections in Gokak, his home constituency, Ramesh, who is forefront in mobalising other dissident Congress MLAs in a bid to topple the one-year-old Congress-JD(S) government, hinted that he may resign to his Karnataka Assembly seat and join the Saffron Party.

“I have decided to quit Congress anytime and will make it public soon” Jarkiholi said.

Udupi, Jul 8: Four people have been arrested by the police in connection with the murder of Yogish Poojary (26), a resident of Laxminagara in Tenkanidiyoor in Udupi. A gang, which arrived in a car had attacked Poojary with lethal weapons on July 6.

The arrested are rowdy sheeter Sujith Pinto (37), his elder brother Rohit Pinto (43) Annu alias Pradeep (40) and Vinay (36). Police have continued the manhunt to nab two more accused – Girish and Anup. 

The accused were arrested from Kallianpur last night following which the accused were to murder spot as part of investigation.  The police also seized the car and knives that were used for the crime. 

Police sources said that the accused were under the influence of alcohol when the stabbed Poojary repeatedly with knives.

Three teams headed by sub-inspectors of Malpe, Udupi city and city crime branch took part in the operation.  The accused have been booked under station under section 143, 147, 148, 302 and 149 of IPC.

Mysuru, Jan 20: As the Karnataka state Congress is still awaiting the appointment of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President, MLA Satish Jarkiholi has said that in order to balance the caste and regional equations, All India Congress Committee (AICC) was planning to create four working presidents posts for KPCC.

Talking to media personnel here on Sunday, Mr Jarkiholi, who is considered to be in the race for the post, said that a clear picture about the constitution of additional posts of the working president in the KPCC would emerge in a week.

He added that it has been delayed due to the Assembly elections in Delhi.

Kasaragod, Jul 19: An accused in a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Prevention) Act (POCSO) killed self minutes before being shifted to the jail on Sunday.

Police sources said the criminal, Shaiju, was admitted to Covid-19 observation ward after he was arrested and remanded to judicial custody after he was charged with a case under POCSO for unnatural sex with a neighbour boy recently.

The accused had made a similar attempt last month but was implicated in a case after his treatment.
