Mangaluru, Oct 24: The Indian Coast Guard has rescued a 33-year-old fisherman, who was missing for about 12 hours in the Arabian Sea.
The rescued fisherman has been identified as Goraya Rao, a native of Orissa.
"A distress message was received from the Office of SP CSP Malpe, Udupi regarding missing of one fisherman from FB Shaional Angel with Reg No IND KA/01/3820. The FB left from Mangaluru port for fishing on October 23," said a statement from the Coast Guard here.
Udupi, Jun 28: A student appearing for the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) exams in Kaup taluk of Udupi district has tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) infection.
Officials of the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) and Udupi District Health and Family Welfare Department have confirmed the report.
The 16-year-old girl had appeared for the Kannada and Mathematics exams on June 25 and 27 respectively.
Her throat swabs were sent for testing on June 27 after her father tested covid-19 positive. Today she too obtained positive report.
The student is unlikely to appear for the science paper on June 29.
Meanwhile, health officers have ruled out the possibility of subjecting other students to covid-19 test as all necessary precautions such as physical distancing and usage of sanitization were taken in the examination centre.
Mangaluru, Jun 2: Karnataka-Kerala border at Talapady is yet to be opened for traffic despite lifting lockdown. Only those, who have registered on ‘Seva Sindhu’ portal, are given one-time permission to enter the district.
With the relaxation of the lock-down many, especially the labour class, were anticipating free movement. However, both the States have not allowed free movement of vehicles. Hundreds of people from bordering villages of Kerala arrive in Mangaluru for work and likewise many from bordering villages of Mangaluru too work in Kasargod district.
It has become a routine for the labourers of both the States living in border villages to daily assemble at the check post in the morning and return after the authorities refuse free movement.
Bengaluru, Apr 4: Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa has appealed to employers not to cut salaries of their maids, servants and drivers who are unable to attend work due to the current lockdown situation in the country.
He said compassionate gesture of employers will support the poor and needy.
"I request all the employers not to cut salaries of their maids, servants, drivers etc., who are not able to work due to social distancing. Your compassionate gesture will support the poor and needy to overcome this hard time. FightBackKarnataka CoronavirusPandemic," the Chief Minister said in a tweet.
What benefit govt is giving us so that we can transfer the same goodness to our workers? Or are the funds only to buy and sell MLA?
