Mudigere, Jan 11: The police have arrested a 20-year-old Hindutva chauvinist from Bantwal taluk for torturing a college girl belonging to Hindu community and forcing her to commit suicide in Mudigere.

Santhosh (20), resident of Badagakajekar village in Bantwal taluk, was picked up by police on Thursday in Bengaluru by a team of Mudigere police led by PSI M Rafeek. Santhosh, who is a lift mechanic by profession, is a Bajrang Dal activist and Hindutva chauvinist by passion.

Dhanyashree, a student of Mudigere’s DSBG College, had committed suicide on January 6 after group of Hindutva chauvinists barged into her house and created ruckus accusing her of flirting with Muslim boys. In her death note the Hindu girl had named five Hindutva activists. It was Santhosh, who instigated the local saffron activists in Mudigere to threaten her.

K Annamalai, Superintendent of Police of Chikkamagaluri, said Santhosh had threatened Dhanyashree and her parents and harassed her for many days. He had circulated screenshots of his conversation with the girl in different groups, abetting the suicide. In the conversation, the girl had stated that all Muslims are far better than those who ask Hindu girls not to make friendship with Muslims.

Santhosh had called up Dhanyashree introducing himself as a member of Bajrang Dal and objected to her friendship with a Muslim boy. Later he had shared the screenshots of his conversation with many groups.

Among five persons, who barged into girl’s house and forced her to commit suicide, the police have arrested M V Anil, president of Mudigere town unit of BJP’s Yuva Morcha.

Bengaluru, Jan 5: BJP leader and Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa once again blamed the Congress of creating 'confusion' among the Muslim community over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act-2019 while launching a door to door campaign to dispel such rumors.

Yediyurappa was on a door-to-door campaign to make people aware of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and to allay their fears.

"Unnecessarily, the members of Congress are creating confusion among the Muslim community. I assure you that not a single Muslim will be affected because of CAA," said B. S. Yediyurappa.

"Almost all previous Prime Ministers have supported it, now Congress is creating a problem so as to create confusion among Muslims. That's why we are out on the door-to-door campaign," he said.

The Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019, seeks to grant Indian citizenship to Hindu, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist and Parsi refugees from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh and who entered India on or before December 31, 2014.
