It is said Kashmir is a paradise on earth. Tourists from every corner of the world come to Kashmir. Everyone has a feeling in him/her to visit Kashmir once.
But if you ask me, I have seen peace and freedom in Kashmir for only two years. Earlier, everyone was happy and living a peaceful life. Srinagar city would remain open up to midnight. Everywhere it was wonderful and cheerful. Everyone knew that they will return home in the evening and enjoy some moments with their family.
Conditions in the valley started changing when security forces raped and murdered girls. Two girls in Shopian district were raped and murdered. One was pregnant and another was a teenager. Shopian was closed for more than three months. No one was blamed for it.
The situation got worse when government wanted to go against the spirit of Article 370 of the constitution. More than 72 people were killed by security forces. Time passed, and elections came. Omar Abdulla became the CM and the people were expecting a lot from him, but all in vain.
Kashmir valley has been shut down from the last six months. Many people have died of hunger and thirst. How is a daily wage earner going to feed his family? No one wants to know what people want and no one wants to ask them. Small children are pelting stones and losing their lives. In these six months, more than 125 innocent people have been killed and more than 1000 have lost one or the other part of their body.
People lost patience when security forces killed innocent people in Pupwara at the cost of Rs 5000 each. Security forces are given special powers and no one is there to ask them. Kashmir seems to be a training centre for Indian army.
People want the removal of AFSPA withdrawal of troops from Kashmir. Leave the people to live a peaceful life. Stop human rights violation in Kashmir. Hatred is seen in the hearts of all, ranging from a small child of 3 to a 70 year old.
Incidents of stone pelting and killings of small and innocent people is now a daily scene in Kashmir. But nothing happens to India. India has let the security forces to kill the innocent people of Kashmir. More forces are sent to Kashmir to kill more innocent people. The blood of the younger generation has begun to boil. Police stations and Government properties have been damaged. Schools and Colleges have remained closed for the last six months. What will be the future of Kashmiri students?
Kashmir, which was known as a paradise, has turned into a battlefield. When will India understand that it is killing innocent people in Kashmir? More than 5000 children have become orphans. More than 5000 women have become widows. More than 10,000 people have gone missing and their bodies too have not been found. Even small children are taking part in the movement shouting “leave our Kashmir” and “No India, No Pakistan, only Kashmir”.
The history of Kashmir is different. Kashmir was not with India from the beginning. When Pakistanis (Kablies) attacked Kashmir, our President Sheikh Mohammed Abdulla sought help from India. It was decided that until they go back, Indian forces will have to stay there. It was also decided with the Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru that a separate referendum will be passed whether Kashmir wants to stay with India, or Pakistan, or whether it wants to be separate. In this battle, we lost one part of our land to Pakistan (Azad Kashmir or PoK).
India has declared Kashmir as its integral part. In 1990, many Hindus left Kashmir but they did it of their own will. Kashmiri people have no hand in this. Kashmiris are famous for brotherhood and hospitality. Even today Amarnath Yatra and Mata Bhavani festivals are celebrated together. 90% of the population in Kashmir is Muslim. But whether it is Eid or diwali, Shab-e-qadr or Holi, they are celebrated together.
Recently our CM told in the J&K Assembly that Kashmir became part of India under certain conditions. The all-party delegation admitted crime had been carried out against the people of Kashmir and that they seek forgiveness from the people of Kashmir. They say that Kashmiris are not terrorists and they are our brothers. If we are their brothers, then is this the way they treat us?
