“I come, I go, I am never consistent, would never want to be...” – This is the policy of the MESCOM which supplies electricity to Mangalore city.
It is a city where real estate and educational hubs are booming, but the guys who work towards supplying power to this city will never improve.
The Yeddy government has promised to heal the wounds of this nightmarish power problem. But when will that promise materialize?
These are times of tensed moments for examination going students who intend to spend their days by burning the midnight oil. But our “of the people, for the people and painfully by the people government will never wake up.’
In the end it’s the stupid common man like us who suffer life’s gall.
Mangalore is surely on its road to transition to become a metro year later but these are fearsome catastrophes. This little hiccup needs to be halted.
So much of power is being required for necessary elements, but how little is being delivered?
No power during hot summer days only increases frustration, decreases productivity and delays progress. To make things worse, there is no certain time for power cut. It happens randomly anytime and the time duration of loss of power is indefinite. I am sometimes left to wonder & think, what is the use, being in a coastal area & not even getting one of the basic needs of electricity that’s runs the evening houses.
The electrical gadgets like refrigerator, television, washing machine, grinder are taking a nasty beating. At Interval of 2 to 10 minutes these supplies are cut, the generator starts and lo! Again the power comes. This is ridiculous, don’t you think so? People get stuck up in the lifts, chaos sets – in! Will the MESCOM be responsible if the lift collapses due to unknown reasons and innocent lives die? In fact this makes us realize that those in the supply grid are working hand in gloves with the generator companies, giving a huge cut.
If we introspect wisely there are millions who suffer due to power cuts in Mangalore, some operation theatres, DJ partys, marriage functions, poor people who use street lights to study, the list is endless. We Mangaloreans, keep quite for everything you see, that’s why we get what we get.
Had this problem aroused in Mumbai or Delhi or elsewhere, things might have been different. The people would probably stone the set-up to right the wrong. The Government invests so much money on military, infrastructure etc etc but cant they invest little for solving this bloody power problem? Infact if anyone followed closely after the elections had taken place in Karnataka, RS 130 Crores were devoted to temples, - the churches, mosques & other religious places got nothing; such was a secular government we elected. Pleasing Gods with Public money, is it justified? I leave the answer for you to decide. But if the same money was given to buy electricity, at least people would have admired the concerned.
The answer is simple and straightforward. They do not want to invest because no one really bothers. The hardheaded mindset is “why should I interfere? Everyone is suffering. Let others do the talking”
Let me tell you brothers, one man can make a difference. If it is for a purposeful regimen then it will truly be infectious and will multiply manifolds.
I hope and pray, this piece of write-up connects the dots somewhere in someone. Our patience is being tested. Let us do our bit, towards a newer and brighter Mangalore.
WAKE UP MESCOM & GOVERNMENT!!
