The month of December is the month of great celebration as Christmas falls on 25th of December. Christmas, the birthday of Jesus Christ is the celebration of simplicity and sacrifice. The word “Christmas” means ‘mass of Christ’. The cause of this great celebration is because Jesus came as a child to save the restless world of his time. The humility and sincerity of Jesus Christ is the reason for the celebration of this month. Christmas is the call to experience the Lord by practicing a lifestyle which Jesus has shown.
The birth of the savior is celebrated with great pomp. People visit friends and relatives and convey the Christmas message. The days of Christmas are all about feasting and having fun. The traditional Christmas cake is the major attraction during the feast. People prepare cakes three days prior to Christmas and send them to friends and relatives. Christmas crib is another major attraction of Christmas season. Christmas cribs narrate the story of the birth of Jesus. The crib is made up of plywood and grass and is decorated in such a way that it depicts the birth of Jesus as mentioned in the Bible. Santa Claus fascinates people of all ages. It is believed that Santa brings gifts and chocolates for people and especially for the needy. There are many stories related to Santa and his love for kids and the poor. Santa Claus, the Father Christmas is the legendary figure in Christmas. There are many stories related to the journey of Santa with gifts. People dress up as Santa and go along with carols and distribute sweets and chocolates. Santa, the plump, jovial, white bearded man in red coat and black boots brings smiles to people.
Crib, Carol singing, Santa, Christmas cake Christmas tree etc are the attraction of Christmas. An evergreen tree, artificial or real, will be decorated with lights, garlands etc during the days of Christmas. The Christmas tree symbolizes the hope, joy and enthusiasm that one should posses in different stages of life. Noel or Christmas carol do not have any direct connection with the Christmas celebration. The initial Christmas carols were not related to the celebration of Christmas but were only community songs. In today’s Christmas celebration carols plays an important role. Christmas carol of today marks the joy of Christmas and the happiness of coming together. Group of children and elders, go house to house singing carols and wish the joy of the season. The arrival of Christmas is announced through the carols.
In the present world one can become the hands and legs of Jesus and work to transcend the barriers of today’s world. Jesus showed the path of forgiveness and giving up. When forgiveness and tolerance is nurtured in the minds of individual’s peace and harmony will grow within people and society. Peace and harmony is what we miss in the present world.
The message of Christmas will be meaningful when we join our hands and minds to eradicate the threats of terrorism, poverty, corruption and scams. In order to be the hands and minds of Jesus we have to cultivate the qualities of forgiveness, tolerance, humility etc. In order to fulfill the message of Christmas people have to be aware and active. Awareness about self and about the people around is essential to act meaningfully and by being an active individual, one will be able to function sincerely and effectively. The celebration of Christmas will be meaningful when people strive to imbibe the message of Christmas. Let us spread the joy of Christmas by being a child who is active and humble.
