Well it’s that time of the year when people are eagerly waiting for the New Year 2011. It’s the time when everyone’s shopping for new clothes, attending parties, hanging out, meeting friends and relatives, or even for that matter attending weddings and functions. And now it’s here, the most awaited day, the New Year 2011. Everyone’s busy preparing for the new day and New Year, with lot of anticipation as to what is in store for them in the year 2011. And this happens every year with everyone. People forget one thing that is “New Year’s Day is every man’s birthday”, that’s what Charles Lamb said.
But if you could just sit for a moment and recollect the things that happened in the previous year would be a nice attempt. Our life is often spent looking backwards to the past and looking forward to the future. Sometimes we might have retained more of bad things in the past because human beings tend to sulk on their most apprehensive and unhappy moments more than the happy ones. But, going backwards or recollecting the past incidents should help us only in one way and that is to be happy and contented with the good things and learn a lesson from bad experiences.
Every coin has two sides I the same way every year has its good and bad moments. Recollecting from the faintest of my memories in the year 2010, I remember India hosting Commonwealth Games, which was one of the biggest achievements and on the other hand Mangalore airplane crash which was one of the most devastating news for the country. Not to forget the recent news about the lowest temperature record since last 117 years in Northern and Southern parts of India and also inflation or rise in price of onions. So as it every year, even this year there are good things to come and bad things on their way. Nevertheless, what we can do is hope for the best.
There are people who go to an astrologer to get the forecast of their future but sometimes things never happen as they are forecasted. On the other hand people believe in what is called as fate or destiny. We don’t need all this if we have faith in ourselves. Looking from other perspective, there are thousands of people who have new hopes and dreams for this year. For instance, there are thousands of women who are waiting for their husbands to return from war, there are still thousands of people waiting for food and water, hundreds mourning over the death of their loved ones, thousands of people waiting for jobs, hundreds of broken relationships, thousands who want to stop war, millions who are homeless, children abundant, many suffering, people waiting for their missing family members to return back and so on. There are people who fall in the above category and those who do not. And those who aren’t the part of this can help each other and the needy. That is what can be done for this year rather than making resolutions and breaking them. According to me, there are five important things that will help you remain happy in life and in fact can be applied in everyday living they are- sharing, forgiveness, loving, sympathy and faith. So this New Year 2011, face the challenges, fight your fears and strive for the happiness of others. I would like to conclude with the words of Robert Benchley, “I take life as it comes, and although I grouse a great deal and sometimes lie on the floor and kick and scream and refuse to eat my supper, I find that taking life as it comes is the only way to meet it”.
Happy New Year and Have a great year ahead!!!!
