We stand at the threshold today witnessing corruption like never before, every morning while I put on the news channel, all I get to see is, the scams in all their courageous glory, the murders to which there is no explanations & the crimes that try to be covered, thanks to the so called powerful politicians.
We are links of a great past to an uncertain future. Will we ever get out for the ruins we dwell in or is it our final journey towards eternal damnation? If we cannot fix the solution, we are the problem. What is the reason India is the way it is? All those people who boast about or project brand India at the world level are just trying to win media attention & goodwill. In reality things are drastically going wrong with the country. The recent Common Wealth Games projected India at a new level, but the preparations & the things that were associated with it to get it to reality where below human principles.
The road vendors were chased away from the place where the CWG was being projected to the world arena, they are the sole bread winners for the family, if we can’t accommodate them, must we banish them? What kind of Government is this? Nothing is so constitutional about this, I don’t think it is mentioned any where in any page or whatever one can think of, where it is said that, to achieve something, destroy something, someone, whoever it may be. The inconvenience caused to the people of Delhi will be remembered for a long long time, brand India may have been shown to the world but at what cost? When someone’s weakness provides the glamour, it’s a poor joke.
In public space one keeps hearing many a thing which are horrifying, vicious and bad in taste. K.Sudarshan, the father figure of RSS, recently (November 2010) stated that Sonia Gandhi was a foreign agent, that she had some role in the deaths of her mother-in-law and her husband, and that Rajiv Gandhi had wanted to leave her. This statement was not carried by the large section of media, and there were only few commentators who took it up for analysis. While Congress supporters did outpour their anguish through protests and filing of some cases, the RSS itself distanced itself from this statement. Tarun Vijay of BJP, with RSS background, also dissociated BJP form this statement. Interestingly even while distancing BJP from Sudarhsan’s statement he made it a point to pay compliments to the intellect of K.Sudarshan. On the other front, a publicity seeking speech by Pravin Togadia – a hardline Sangh Parivar leader, stated that he will build Ram Temple in Ayodhya within two years. This was a provocative speech, with the motive to spark violence, however the larger segment of learned men & women, of all the denominations have realized that be it Ram, Jesus Or Allah – they are good neighbors. It would be meaningless to say yes to something that will eventually fail. With so many years of republic, this is the face of a Republic India which says that we are united, with love and by and large peaceful people. A sincere appeal to the readers, think for yourself, the right & the wrong, and voice out. Will you only wake up, if attacks occur at your door step? Doesn’t your heart yearn for those victims of purposeless suffering? Think about it seriously, this time around.
Moving on to the political segment projected so grandly by the media, the non-functioning of the winter session of Parliament cost the nation a fortune of 171 crores. The amount is worked out with the expenditure for each day of a session calculated at Rs 7.8 crore. Opposition parties, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), stalled parliamentary proceedings over the controversial 2G spectrum allocation that is alleged to have caused a colossal loss to the national exchequer. What makes one think is, if they cannot use the money productively, what right do they have to waste it? The same money could have brought a billion smiles on the faces of the common man, who struggles to earn a living even. The land scam in Karnataka, where the CM – Yeddyurappa found himself in, he willingly returned the land & the chapter has been closed, is there no moral ground? He doesn’t even want to resign. We are watching Adarsh millionaires, on the many aspects that go with it, where have we come with so many years of republic? What kind of a nation are we going to build?
Even the sports sector is surrounded with corruption, the young minds of the country are being influenced by extremist ideologies. We seem to be fine with everything. We may be growing in one hand, but if we are failing on the other, our growth is of no use, we ain’t going anywhere. With just so much to write on, & volumes to go, I need to stop for now.
Our beloved Ex-president Abdul Kalam’s dream of Vision 2020 may never be realized, but the grandeur of a dream lives on. We have collectively failed, and we need to accept it, before anything can change our mindset and clogged in thinking with narrow minded, vote related politics & partialities must go. It is only then that we can think of the day when we shall have a good night’s sleep.
With all this and many more, How can we ever sing “saare jahaan se acchha Hindustan humara?”
