Will continue to fight against terror groups, says Owaisi after ISIS threats

January 8, 2016

Hyderabad, Jan 8: MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi today said that he will not be cowed down by threats from ISIS, and continue to speak out against it as it has nothing to do with Islam.

Untitled-1 copyA day after somebody tweeted on his wall asking him to shut his mouth and leave democracy, the Hyderabad lawmaker, who moves around without any security, said he would not seek protection in the wake of threats.

"I receive such threats every day. I will live as long as Allah wills," he said.

Stating that IS' ideology is devilish and based on hatred, Mr Owaisi said there was need to finish this ideology.

"They don't know mercy. They don't know the meaning of mercy. They massacred 1.5 lakh Muslims including scholars," he said, pointing out that all Islamic scholars in India and abroad have condemned IS actions and urged people to be cautious.

The Lok Sabha member said Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) had taken a political stand that it is against all anti-national forces.

An alleged IS sympathiser had tweeted "It's better for you to shut your mouth on Islamic State if you don't know the truth, Islamic State will invade India soon."

To this Mr Owaisi replied "Sir you are a bloody Takfiri, if you want to debate on Evil ISIS I am ready you will not be able to counter my Theological Points."

"You can dream so keep dreaming Takfiri read book on ISIS will bring y out of Darkness of ISIS Allah give Taufeeq," Mr Owaisi added.

He said he replied as he would not have kept quiet on the rubbish of invading India.

The IS sympathiser then tweeted asking Mr Owaisi to leave democracy. "Your Disgrace for Muslims of India. Opposing Islamic state will lead you to hell only repent before end."

Mr Owaisi told reporters that this itself shows that IS thinking is devilish. "The power of sending somebody to hell or heaven rests solely with Allah. It's not in the hands of any human being," he added.

Bengaluru, May 12: Former chief minister and senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah on Tuesday said that the Central and Karnataka government have failed in containing the coronavirus spread despite having enough time for preparations.

"Central and state government failed in properly controlling COVID-19. The first coronavirus case was reported in Kerala on January 30. Lockdown was imposed on March 24. Both Centre and state had enough time for preparations," Siddaramaiah said in a press meet here.

He said that the Central government did not stop the airline services on time.

"Karnataka government might have been able to stop COVID-19 properly. However, both the state and central government are playing politics over the issue and blaming Tablighi Jamaat for the spread, which is a political strategy painted by the RSS," Siddaramaiah said.

"Who gave the licence to Tablighi's international convention? Who gave them permission in Delhi? They didn't control it. Central government is directly responsible for the increasing numbers of COVID-19 cases in India," he added.

Siddaramaiah said that the lockdown was imposed without any preparation, which he said caused huge problems for the migrant workers across the country.

"Now, the government is collecting ticket fare and looting migrant workers. They don't have jobs or food, they don't have money, and they earn every day to survive. How will they pay for the tickets? Why the government is not arranging for free trains?" the Congress leader said.

He said that around Rs 35,000 crore have been credited to PM CARES fund, Rs 3,000 crore of which was credited from Karnataka alone. "Why are they not using that money?" he asked.

Siddaramaiah said that the party is demanding for the Centre to arrange for migrant workers to return to their native places across the country free of cost.

"We asked Chief Minister to call an all party meeting. We gave many suggestions, which this government did not consider. We also took a delegation and gave a memorandum about farmers, daily wage workers, road side vendors, barbers, problems faced by the unorganized sector. But this government didn't consider any of it," he said.

Questioning the Central government's suggestion to States to amend their Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) Acts, Siddaramaiah said that the move is against the federal system of the country and claimed that it harms the interests of small scale farmers.

He said that the BJP-led state government has also decided to postpone the Gram panchayat elections in the state and is trying to nominate their party workers for village panchayat elections.

"The Government must continue with the present members of the Gram panchayat. If BJP tries to nominate their party members to village panchayats, we will take to streets to protest despite the lockdown," Siddaramaiah added.

Mandya, July 30: BJP state president Nalin Kumar Kateel on Wednesday said Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa has done a commendable job in tackling the Covid-19 situation and floods and that the question of changing the leadership does not arise.

Karnataka on Wednesday reported 5,503 new cases of Covid-19 and 92 related fatalities, taking the total number of infections to 1,12,504 and the death toll to 2,147.

Speaking to reporters here, Kateel said, "Deputy Chief Minister Laxman Savadi has gone to Delhi to discuss the projects sanctioned to state with the central minister. There is no need to read too much into it."

Replying to a query on graft charges against the BSY government by the Congress, Kateel said, "Congress national president, state unit president are out on bail in graft cases . Why did a Congress leader who calls himself a bande (rock) has approached court seeking stay on CBI probe? Before making any allegations against the government, they should think about 'irregularities' in Indira Canteen and housing schemes," he charged.

Instead of instilling confidence and hope among the people in these testing times, the Congress is unnecessarily creating fear with petty politics, he told reporters in Shravanabelagola, Hassan district.

"The Yediyurappa-led BJP government is working day and night to tackle the Covid-19. Similarly, several non-governmental organisations have joined hands with the government in the fight against the virus. But, the Congress is only creating confusion by issuing baseless statements," Kateel said.
