Bengaluru, Sep 24: A newly married Muslim couple were picked up by a joint team of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Telangana Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) on suspicion of terror links in the city on Saturday.

marriedAccording to police sources, the joint team was tailing the suspect Javed Rafiq (30), who was with his wife, from a distance and on realising that he would be nabbed, he tried to escape.

Telangana Police constable Srinivas, who is part of the ATS, tried to stop him, but Rafiq attacked him with a sharp object.

Rafiq and the constable were immediately rushed to a local hospital. Rafiq’s wife Yasmin was taken aback by the sudden development and the NIA team detained her later.

The incident comes a day after the NIA picked up 14 men including six from Karnataka in a pre-dawn swoop for allegedly being sympathisers of ISIS.

“The incident took place at Doddanagamangala and a constable was injured in the attack. The suspect is wanted by the NIA in a particular case. The City police are yet to be informed about the raid by the NIA,” Bengaluru Police Commissioner N S?Megharik said on Saturday.

However, Megharik said he did not have details of the case in which Rafiq was wanted. As many as six NIA and ATS teams are in Bengaluru and more arrests cannot be ruled out, sources added. “The attack took place before the couple could enter the house,” said DCP (south-east) M B Boralingaiah.

Rafiq is from Delhi and moved to Bengaluru three years ago. He married Yasmin six-months ago and the couple were staying in the second floor of a four-storeyed building owned by one Ashraf on 4th main road, Vinayaka Nagar.

The City police were not sure whether Yasmin was also involved in terror activities. “We have no information and we have not been keeping a tab on her,” said a senior police officer.

Sources in the City police said the joint team arrived here on Saturday to detain Rafiq. The jurisdictional Parappana Agrahara police have decided to register a case against Ashraf and interrogate him.

Modi wave in dust bin now and BJP using puppet NIA to glorify Modi by these random arrest. Innocent Muslim youths are scapegoat. Amith Shah did same crime while in Gujarat and orgabnised fake encounters.

Bengaluru, Apr 27: Former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda on Monday demanded that the Karnataka government announce a special package for farmers who are on the verge of quitting agriculture as their profession following losses due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Please announce special package for the farmers to bail them out of the loss due to the lockdown.

Drop many of the schemes in the budget but don't leave the farmers in distress," Gowda said in his letter to Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa.

The JD(S) supremo said the way relief has been announced for the milk producers by procuring the unsold milk and distributing it to the slum dwellers, the same assistance should be provided to the farmers of the state.

"If you don't come forward to assist the farmers, then they will be forced to sell their land," Gowda cautioned the Chief Minister.

The former prime minister said the farmers are on the verge of falling in the debt trap and may be compelled to take the extreme step of suicide due to the losses.

Gowda said the farmers are unable to sell their crop because they are not getting proper price for their produce and are selling their crop at a throwaway price to minimise their losses.

"In just one month farmers reached the brink of bankruptcy as they are unable to sell the standing crops in lakhs of acres of land," Gowda said.

The JD(S) supremo has been championing the cause of farmers in the state and highlighting their sufferings.

On April 3 Gowda has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to look into the plight of farmers, labourers and the middle class people due to the lockdown.

"In such times of crisis, we should see to it that there is no disruption in farming activities by ensuring proper marketing channels to agricultural produce, especially perishables.

Only then we can sustain our long battle against this pandemic," Gowda said in a tweet.

Bengaluru,  Jul 18: Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers DV Sadananda Gowda on Friday said that Government of India headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been extending all possible assistance to state government in their endeavour to combat the deadly coronavirus.

In a statement released after participating in a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa in Bengaluru today, Gowda said he shared his views with the state government on how to control the spread of COVID-19 in the state in general and Bengaluru in particular.

He said the Centre was in constant touch with the state government on the issue. The centre is more than happy to extend any help further if Karnataka requires so.

"Being a Union Minister handling the Pharmaceutical Department also, I am closely monitoring the medicine demand and supply situation across the country on a day-to-day basis. The availability of required medicines including HCQ and Paracetamol is satisfactory in all states including Karnataka. Also, there has been enough lifesaving drugs in our Jan Aushadhi Kendras all over India. Over 600 such outlets exist in Karnataka alone," he said.

"If there is any issue related to medicine shortage or overpricing, one can bring it to my knowledge or call PMBJP tollfree number 18001808080 or NPPA number 18001112550 / 011-23345118 / 011-23345122. The grievances will surely be resolved to everybody's satisfaction" added the minister.

With related to state governments or private agencies seeking to import emergency medicines, medical equipment etc., Gowda assured, we would facilitate required licences without any delay.

"I strongly feel that it is our collective responsibility to use everything in our armour to defeat the pandemic. We also seek public support in this mission. Together, we will win," he said.
