Dammam: The ‘JF winter cup 2016’ got a glitzy and illustrious opening at SABSA Cricket Ground in Rakah near here on 22nd January 2016. The inaugural ceremony in the morning session gave a spectacle beginning which engulfed the Eastern Province. The pleasant weather with bright and shiny morning had provided all the 12 Cricket Teams to applaud the prestigious and most popular Cricket Tournament of Jam’iyyatul Falah. The tournament was organized for a noble cause and it was concluded with a fabulous closing ceremony and a spectacular grand finale.

Mohammed Wahid, President of JF Dammam Unit inaugurated the opening ceremony. Javed and Siraj, had described the rules and regulations on the ground to all the Cricket Teams and the inaugural match of the preliminary round between “CBC” and “SAB” was started off on-time and followed by all other matches as scheduled. All preliminary and quarter final matches were played in the morning session and the Semi-Finals and Finals were played in the afternoon session under delightful atmosphere.

Amaco won the toss and elected to field first. Shamsheer and Ranjeeth opened the innings for Expertise. Amaco bowler succeeds to take the wicket of Shamsheer on the very first ball of the match for duck. Rifdi joined Ranjeeth, both played magnificently by hitting boundaries and sixes; and added valuable score of 50 runs partnership for the 2nd wicket. Azhar joined and put 15 runs for the 3rd wicket. Expertise were 82/4 in 5th over at one stage, but in the last 3 over, Amaco bowlers controlled their line and length, and gave away 26 runs. Expertise put a huge score of 108 in allotted 8 over by losing 6 wickets. Ranjeeth 40 (5 sixes), Rifdi 23 (3 sixes). For AMACO Harish took 2/15 and Rasheed took 2/27.

Chasing the target of 109 was a challenge for Amaco in allotted 8 over. Mohammad Asif & Rameez opened the innings for Amaco, both batsmen rotate their bats and managed to keep the required runs intact, as both built the total of 42 for the first wicket in the first 4 over. At the crucial stage, Amaco’s batsman Niyaz got out for duck and Niyaz’s was a vital wicket for Expertise. Amaco required 66 runs in 24 balls and they were losing their wicket in regular interval. At this difficult stage, Saleem joined Rameez. Saleem took the challenge and start hitting on all corners of the ground with 2 consecutive sixes, and 3 boundaries with a total of 24 runs in the 5th over from the bowler Zubair. In last 18 balls, Amaco needed another 42 runs and managed get only 6 runs from 6 balls bowled by James. Amaco with the run rate of 18 runs per over to win the finals kept the crowd on their feet for the nail biting finish. Saleem played brilliantly by hitting 3 consecutive sixes to Nuwan’s bowling and the score moved to 97 runs in 7th over. Amaco lost their important wicket of Rameez at the crucial stage. In last 6 balls, AMACO required 12 runs and new batsman Sharafat scored 3 runs on the first ball and given strike to Saleem. Saleem took charge to hit huge six on 2nd ball and the 3rd ball went for 2 runs and the winning short rolled out of the boundary on the 4th ball. Saleem took away the match from Expertise and gave a remarkable victory to Amaco by 6 wickets. Amaco won for the first time the prestigious JF Winter Cup 2016 organized by JF Dammam Unit. Rameez 50 (3 sixes, 4 fours), Saleem 37 (5 sixes). For Expertise Nuwan and James took two wickets each. Saleem was awarded man of the match.

Prior to Finals, first Semi-Final was played between Amaco v/s SAB. Batted first Amaco scored 84 runs in 8 over. Niyaz (45) and Salman (2/19). Batted second SAB scored 79 runs in 8 over. Iqbal (45) and Tafseer (3/12). Amaco won by 5 runs. The second Semi-Final was played between Blue Stars v/s Expertise. Batted first Blue Stars scored 68 runs in 8 over. Nasir (29) and James (3/15). Batted second Expertise made 71 runs with 5 balls to spare. Ranjeeth (41) and Sampath (3/10). Expertise won by 4 wickets.

Immediately after the Finals, the post-match presentation and closing ceremony was hosted by Javed Sayed and supported by Ibrahim Khader. The program commenced with Qirath by Nuwayd and Salman. President Mohammad Wahid addressed the audience with his welcome speech and thanked the thrilled-packed audience for their kind presence. President appreciated all the 12 cricket teams for their participation and lauded their great sportsmanship throughout the tournament and declared all the 12 cricket teams as a WINNER for playing in the tournament, which contributes all the collections for the Noble Cause.

The presence of prominent guests and audience had built a pleasant environment of joy and happiness on the ground and their presence was appreciated by the Host. The Main Sponsors for the Cricket Tournament “IDEALINK”, “JAFCO” and “SAB” were presented with memento. The main sponsors and distinguished guests had shared and invited on the dais including Chief Guest Abubakker Nazeer (IDEALINK), Brand Ambassador of the Tournament Ismail Ebrahim (JAFCO), Haji Basheer (Ex-President of JF Mangalore Corporation Unit), Javad Khan (Al-Kabeer Foods), Ahmed Abbas (Chairman, JF Sports Committee), Mr. Ismail (USI Freight), Mohammad Asif (CEO, AMACO), Liyakat Khan (Al-Majdouie Logistics), Mohammad Farook (Ex-Ameer, JF NRCC) and Mohammad Wahid (President, JF Dammam).

The success of “JF Winter Cup 2016” was dedicated to its Main Sponsors, Co-Sponsors and all the well-wishers of Jam’iyattul Falah, who had been a great support and foundation to a wonderful Cricket Tournament, and the encouragement had given the opportunity to JF Dammam Unit to work for the betterment of the community back home.

Subsequently, the prize distribution ceremony was hosted by Javed Sayed and he announced the winners of ‘Man of the Match’ awardees for their performance in the Preliminary, Quarter Final, Semi-Final and Finals. Individual awards were presented to different players in various categories.

Rameez of AMACO judged “Man of the Tournament” for his remarkable performance throughout the tournament. He also won the Return Air-Ticket sponsored by Al-Majdouie Travels.

Mohammad Asif, the Captain of Amaco cricket team collected the Winner’s Trophy from the Brand Ambassador of the Tournament Ismail Ibrahim (JAFCO) and Chief Guest Abubakker Nazeer (IDEALINK) and at the same time, each winning players had collected their individual trophies. Shamsheer the Captain of “Expertise” Cricket Team collected the Runners-up trophy from Haji Basheer of JF Mangalore Corporation Unit and the players were distributed with their individual trophies. AL-KABEER sponsored Lucky Cricket Team prize LED TV and the prize won by Blue Stars and it was presented by Javad Khan of AL-KABEER.

For last several years, AMACO tried their level best to win JF Cup and finally this year their Dream came True by winning the \JF Winter Cup 2016\". AMACO displayed a true sportsmen spirit throughout the game and cricket is also known as Gentleman's game and really it displayed throughout the tournament by the players of all the 12 Cricket Teams and of course the effort of JF Sports Organizing Team for successfully organizing the Mega Event of the Year. JF Dammam Unit once again wrote the success story in golden words. Dubai: In response to UAE health authorities encourage blood donation campaign Anivasai Kannadigara Okkuta - U.A.E, conducted blood donation camps on April 22 at Abu Dhabi Blood Bank Khaldiya and on 23/04/2020 at Blood Transfusion and Research Centre, Sharjah.

The Abu Dhabi camp was inaugurated by Head of Department of Abu Dhabi Blood Bank, On this occasion she gave brief inputs of the benefits and features of blood donation, urged the participants to spread greater awareness about the importance of blood donation and congratulated the AKO members for their selfless social service and wished all the best for their future endeavours.

Abdul Rasheed, President of AKO presided over the function and Anivasai Kannadigara Okkuta Vice President Mr. Mohammad Nasir appreciated the effort for organizing this camp and gathering youths to be a part of this noble cause as life is precious on this earth. "Each drop of blood counts much, so kindly take it as personal compassion to help unknown who requires blood with no relatives to help him/her.

In Abu Dhabi 41 and in Sharjah 49 donors participated in this event and donated their blood. It was nice to see cheerful smiling donors doing a great community work.
Blood bank staff and AKO Organizing team enthusiastically arranged the campaign which was witnessed by many members and leaders of various community organization of Karnataka.

Anivasai Kannadigara Okkuta President briefed the participates about the ongoing social work of AKO in this current COVID-19 pandemic grim situation AKO is working on following fields: AKO Members have stepped up to support needy community during the Covid-19 pandemic have gone out of their way to comfort those struggling to deal with the challenging situation.

While thousands of people continue to #StayHome, many are in quarantine, there are those on visit visa and stuck here, others have lost jobs or face salary cuts. AKO in coordination with UAE Embassy and other social organization have been able to ensure basic necessities are fulfilled with food provisions and medical assistance to needy.

Providing counselling to bachelors and families those are on quarantine and isolation.

The organizers thanked everybody especially, UAE Health Authority, Abu Dhabi Blood Bank Khaldiya and Blood Transfusion and Research Centre, Sharjah, Management and staff as well as donors for their time and support for the good cause.

Abu Dhabi: Yogish Prabhu K is the newly elected president of Abu Dhabi’s prestigious India Social & Cultural Centre (ISC) and he will serve for the period 2020-2021. ISC’s annual general body meeting and Election for 2020 were held on Thursday, February 27 and the election results of the election were announced during the early hours of Friday, February 28th morning.

In the keenly contested election, Yogish Prabhu emerged victorious. Humble origin and hailing from a small town of Karkala from Udupi district of Karnataka state has never deterred him from setting challenging goals. He belongs to a well-known Gouda Saraswat Brahmin family of K.V.Prabhu Coconut oil mill in Karkala. He is the eldest son of Late Rtn. Krishna Prabhu and Rtn. Bharati Prabhu.  His father and grandfather were freedom fighters who left a profound impression on him and their ideology “serving people is like worshiping God” (Jana seveye Janardhana seve) inspired and guided his life ever since. Prabhu has been a privilege member of ISC since 2003 and has been actively involved in ISC activities throughout. His relationship with ISC spans over 2 decades during which he has immensely contributed in many ways to ISC and the Indian community at large. A banker by profession, Yogish Prabhu is currently working as Vice President, Group Finance & Treasury, First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB).

With some new initiatives in his mind, Prabhu wants to creatively improve the quality of ISC’s services, its humanitarian impact as well as the diversity of its membership. His intentions are always to help everyone irrespective of caste, creed, religion, language or status. As a new elected President of ISC, Prabhu’s main objective is to strategically plan and implement his vision through his ABC 5 Year Plan i.e.,

A-    Accountability & Transparency,

B-    Build a Sound Financial Plan and

C-    Compassion & Affection for the needy

so that ISC is recognized not just in UAE, but worldwide as a mascot of the great Indian community.

Prabhu thinks “as individuals, we can do only so much but with the support of Elected ISC Committee members and all the ISC members together, there is no limit to what we can achieve, and in the process, we can truly transform the ISC”. He proudly says, “I have a strong treasury management experience in ISC as well as in the bank which we need now more than ever”.

With his dynamic leadership, sheer dedication and ambition, ISC will definitely be scaling new heights of glory and prestige in Abu Dhabi and beyond. His humble nature, leadership qualities coupled with his rich administrative experience will surely help boost ISC’s popularity and meet its challenging goals and can serve people in a better way and contribute to the Indian community at large.

Yogish Prabhu has been married for 28years. His wife Chethana Prabhu Kasaragod too has been equally active in ISC and continuously supporting and participating in various sports, entertainment and literary committees throughout these years. She became ISC Women’s Forum Convener in 2016-2017. Their daughter, Aarti Prabhu is an IT Engineer from NITK Suratkal, working in Bangalore. Son, Ajith Prabhu finished his Masters in Mechanical Engineering and Management in Industrial Design in Queens University, Belfast, Northern Ireland, UK and at present doing his internship there. Both Aarti and Ajith are alumni of Abu Dhabi Indian School and both have represented National level CBSE Badminton meet. Also, Aarti was a Gold medalist in the school for scoring 100 in Mathematics in SSLC.

Following are few of his contributions and achievements:

•          Hon. Asst. Treasurer of ISC for consecutive years from 2005 till 2007

•          Hon. Treasurer of ISC in 2011.

•          Member of Finance Committee of ISC new infrastructure and premises from approval till completion.

•          In 2016, initiated the participation of ISC members as officials for International Yoga Day organized by Indian Embassy

•          In 2017, initiated the participation of children as officials to help the organizers so that children could learn their social responsibility and become good citizens.

•          In 2012, initiated ladies throw ball tournament in ISC and now it is extended to men too.

Dubai, Aug 7: One may call it good luck, but for two Indian expats it was God who prevented them at the last minute from boarding the Air India Express plane that crashed in Kerala, killing at least 18 people on board.

According to India's Civil Aviation Ministry, the Boeing 737 aircraft on a flight from Dubai to Kozhikode overshot the runway at Kozhikode airport on Friday evening. There were 184 passengers including 10 infants, 2 pilots and four cabin crew onboard the aircraft.

Noufal Moin Vetten, an Ajman resident working as an office boy in a Sharjah school, was booked to travel on the flight and had checked in as per schedule.

Recounting his miraculous escape, Vetten, a resident of Malappuram, Thirunavaya, whose visa was cancelled a week ago, told Gulf News: “I was handed my boarding pass, but when I reached immigration, they told me I had to pay a fine of Dh 1,000 (Rs 20,430) for overstay. I had only Dh 500 (Rs10,215) with me.

"I called my school PRO and he told me to come back. He said they would follow protocols and pay the fines before sending me,“ he said.

Vetten was disappointed and called his family to let them know.

“When I heard about the crash, I was saddened for all the passengers. But I'm so relieved I missed it. God has been really merciful,” said Vetten.

Afsal Parrakodan, a resident of Abu Dhabi, had a similar stroke of luck.

“My work visa was cancelled about a week ago. After getting my boarding pass, I was told I had to pay a fine of Dh1,000 at the immigration counter, but I had only Dh500 on me.”

“I was very keen to board the flight and be with my family. So I called a friend who brought me the additional Dh500, but by then, my baggage had been offloaded and the flight's doors were closed,” said Parrakodan.

“I was feeling very sad and called my mother to tell her I had missed the flight. But a few hours later, when I learnt of the crash, I couldn’t help but feel relieved and thankful to God for saving my life,“ said an overwhelmed Parrakodan who plans to fly back next week.
