Under-19 and Under-16 cricketers selected for KSCA Academy coaching

Mangalore, April 6: Karnataka State Cricket Association Mangalore Zone has announced the list of Under-19 and Under-16 players selected for the KSCA Academy coaching camps.

The camps are scheduled to be held simultaneously in Mangalore, Manipal, Madikeri and Gonikoppa from April 9.

In Madikeri and Gonikoppa, more players will be selected before the start of the camp, a KSCA spokesperson said.

Many players could not attend the selection trials due to examinations in these areas.

Mangalore, Feb 4: Following the directions of the University Grants Commission (UGC) to use khadi for convocations and other events in universities and colleges, Mangalore University has decided to use khadi-silk for ceremonial robes.

The amendments to the statute governing convocations for conferring degrees were approved in the Academic Council meeting.

Mangalore University Registrar Prof A M Khan said on Tuesday that the colour of the gown of the chancellor will be rich dark red or vermilion and the ‘angavasthram’ will be of gold with blue border.

Dharwad, Jan 5: Hameed Khan, a noted sitar exponent and descendant of renowned sitarist Ustad Rahimat Khan, passed away at his residence here on Saturday night.

He was 69 and survived by wife Fareeda, son Mohsin Khan (a musician) and daughter Arma Khan (an artist).

Hameed Khan taught sitar at Karnatak University’s college of music and also at the family-run music school ‘Bharateeya Sangeeta Vidyalaya’. Several of his disciples who were foreign nationals helped him establish ‘Kalakeri Sangeet Vidyalaya’ at Kalakeri village near Dharwad, which provides music lessons to the deprived.

Bengaluru, Aug 7: Dr Mohammed Yusuf, chairperson of the Karnataka State Board of Auqaf, passed away at a private hospital in the city today following a brief illness. He was 74.

Dr Yusuf was an industrialist and was known for his philanthropic activities. 

A veterinarian, Dr Yusuf had quit the government job and set up business in Bengaluru and Dubai decades ago and has earned considerable success.

He was re-elected as Board of Auqaf chief in January this year. He had held the post more than once in the past. 

He will be buried at the graveyard near Masjid-e-Muzammil which was built by himself at Govindapura, source said.
