Udupi, Jan 31: “I am proud of my daughter. Politicians may hate her but people love and respect her…,” says Radhakrishna Shenoy, father of Anupama Shenoy, a senior police officer who was transferred allegedly because of the high-handedness of Minister of State for Labour P.T. Parameshwar Naik.

anupama63-year-old Radhakrishna, who runs a canteen at Uchila village in Udupi district, is confident that her daughter is strong enough to handle tough situations in life.

“I have brought up my children under tremendous hardship. Hence they know how to survive when situations get worse,” he says.

Among his three children, the first son Aravind is an electronics engineer in Malaysia and the other Achutha is a field engineer. After BSc, Anupama completed Masters in Social Work before clearing the KAS examination.

“Anupama was a bright student and always wanted to be an officer. She has reached her position by the dint of her hard work,” Radhakrishna said.

“As a government servant and police officer Anupama has to go wherever she was transferred to by the Police Department. But it is also sad that those who do their work sincerely should be treated in this manner,” he laments.

Radhakrishna has been running the canteen in Uchila for the last 42 years. Though his children want him to stop running the canteen, he said: "I want to be financially independent and will run it till I die." Radhakrishna’s mother is a home maker and she used to roll out beedis until recently.

Parameshwara Naik has reportedly justified transferring Deputy Superintendent of Police of Kudligi sub-division in Ballari district Anupama Shenai for placing his call on hold.

Daughter of a poor man only can show guts to put a minister in his place by putting his call on hold. Kudos Kavita for having made your parents proud and also many citizens like me proud of your courage. Wish there are more (if not all) police officers and civil servants like you. Salute.

Bengaluru, Mar 15: The week-long ban imposed by the Karnataka Government from Saturday is yet to get a total response in the State to fight against the spread of killer disease Coronavirus (COVID-19).

The ban has witnessed a considerable reduction in the travelling public by Bus and train. Bus terminal and Railway stations wore desert look or only a very few public travelling. KSRTC, which was maintaining service for every 10 minutes once between the State Capital and to City of Palaces, was forced to cancel most of the service due to very little patronage.

"We were left with no option but to cancel the fleet since there are no passengers," sources at the KSRTC Bus terminal told media persons.

Mangaluru, June 10: The first direct repatriation flight from Damma to Mangaluru International Airport under Vande Bharat Mission will be operated on June 21.

Thousands of people from coastal districts of Karnataka are stranded without flights in different parts of Saudi Arabia after the announcement of covid lockdown in March this year.

Even though the government of India launched Vande Bharat Mission to repatriate Indian expatriate through special flights, no flight was scheduled from Saudi Arabia to Mangaluru.

Several organisations had exerted pressure on the government of India and government of Karnataka to bring back stranded Kannadigas from Saudi Arabia.

With the sole intention of helping the stranded Kannadigas, a few philanthropists in Saudi Arabia last month formed an NGO called Saudi Kannadigas Humanity Forum under the leadership of Zakariya Bajpe and Sheikh Expertise.

Kalaburagi, Feb 22: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader Waris Pathan was booked for his alleged remark against the Hindu community in his speech during an anti-CAA rally held here recently, police sources said on Saturday.

According to police sources, the FIR was registered against the AIMIM leader, following a complaint lodged by a woman advocate on Friday evening.

Taking strongly about the incident, the Karnataka Home minister Basavaraj Bommai had directed the Kalaburagi city police commissioner to submit a report on the incident.

It may be recalled that the AIMIM leader, in his speech at a rally held in the city on February 15 had said that if all the 15 crore minority populations in the country stand united they could take on 100 crore Hindu population.
